@eva 'bitchin' is valspeak, when they say it in the film, it means good! they say to julie for example "Tommy is so bitchin"!
@Lady Arwen indeed, and you know Julie comes across early on as that strange mix of almsot genteel yet she is really quite ballsy, she's got the guy but: " I definitely need something new!"
me too Lady Arwen!! and then julie breaks up with tommy on the elevator "Like, I'm totally not in love with you any more"! before you get to know what he is really like, you can almost feel sorry for the guy!!
I think, the contast is best seen on the party, the differences between the hairstyles, the clothes and the languages. I think, that differences was it, that Julie attracted the most to Randy.

yeah, that he isn't the same as everyone else, that he isn't another millionst white sheep from the group, that he actually is a pink sheep with sunglasses. ^^

yes, Randy and Fred look so out of place at that party, but i lov them all the more for it!
but let's not jump the scene eva mentioned! the beach scene!
You know what i like about it? on the beach their are no divides, it s kind of neutral..all of Julie's friends agree about Randy: "WHAT A HUNK" when he is in his swimming gear and they don't know what he is into and what he wears
You are really so good at that quotes, Lula! :) Well, at first, you can`t impossible know, what this character would turn out during the movie. And, I totally can understand Julie, that she wants someone new! And, Randy is the perfect choice for that adventure. :)

I totally agree on that, Lula! The beach is the perfect neutral space for both "worlds". And, Randy IS a HUNK! Especially with that triangular breasthair!

lol, i guess Nic didnt go as far as utting teh S in it Lady A! we should say at this point that Martha Coolidge, the director asked Nic to shave his chest hair, but it was Nic who went for the shape..early signs of his bold orginality! he didn't care much i don't think about being a stereotypical hunk.
and this was his first role as Ncolas CAGE...despite being good friends with and working with francis Ford Coppola, Martha Coolidge did not know Nic was his nephew until after she had given him the part...Nic wanted to get it on his own merit.
