These are both so lovely, and new to me also. Thank you Lula and Tues.

I do like many soundtracks for older classics, which I won't post here, I am sure things like Zorba the Greek and the Sound of Music are familiar to many.

The one that jumped into my mind with all the lovely guitar sounds ringing around here is the soundtrack from Chocolat, it is very beautiful, and it has this great piece here, Minor Swing, played by Johnny Depp (at least I believe he does the playing).

And here it is by the originator and great gypsy musician Django Reinhardt, which I prefer, it is just amazing to listen to this old recording.

I think Repo Man (the original, not that grotty lookin' Repo Men), Ghost World, Being John Malkovich and basically any Coens movie all have sublime soundtracks!

As for pieces which cannot in any sense be detached from a given film after one has seen them... The Third Man jumps to mind. Comic-sinister!

Oh, my, yes, can't forget the Wizard of Oz, the music is a big part of what makes it so wonderful!Judy Garland was so sublime.

The Third Man is such a great movie, Sprocket, had forgotten about the music, though. Thanks for the reminder.  Gonna have to look into some of the others you mentioned, I don't think I have ever seen the original Repo Man,  and yes the Coen Bros, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, awesome soundtrack!

Nothiing quite  like playing the

magicwandwitchstarsWizard of Oz starsmagicwand witch

soundtrack to raise the vibe on an afternoon!

You are so right Sprocket, ( I know you werent making a big point of it but something struck a chord in me !) the soundtrack in a way is inextricably woven into the movie and the two are symbiotically entwined, perhaps we are doing them both a disservice by separating them out in this way. Hopefully it will either bring fond memories of a movie or inspire watching of  one! starry

You are so right about the Coen brothers, i had not considered that before!

we could go anywhere with this topic..it is so endless! For some reason David Lynch popped into  my mind, obviously the Wild At Heart soundtrack but we talked about that in the Nic soudtrack section..next for some reason came Mullholland Drive..this speaks for itself:

Mysteries Of Love from Blue Velvet is also favourite of mine..and couldn resist this combination

"From the movie Blue Velvet. Music by Angelo Badalamenti. With scenes from Nosferatu, by Werner Herzog"

How about something completely different? these are both epic and monumental soundtracks!

I have had this Vangelis soundtrack for Chariots Of Fire for many years, the main theme is amazing but perhaps the other tracks are my favourites, they remind me of the cosmos somehow!

Which leads me ( in my  mind ) to this!

which in some strange way leads to this:

and this! ( a favourite )

but nothing (if Imay go off topic a little) can beat the original Batman theme from the TV show!

No idea how I got from Vangelis to here! chortle

They are all just awesome, I love them all, but the Superman theme will always be my favourite I think, I get goosebumps whenever I hear it! I really love the first Superman movie, one of my all time favourites.

Gosh, I have just been having a great time listening to some of the other great movie themes on You tube! Here is one that I think is quite iconic now, and awesome in it's own right. I remember seeing this in the theatre when I was a kid, fell right in love with Clint and his poncho, lol!

Classic, Lady Trueheart! you were lucky to see this film in a theater! starry

My fave of the ones i just posted has to be 2001 Space Odyssey spaceship starsand the entire soundtrack... in symbiosis with the movie.. they created something grippingly beautiful and eerie in the unfathomable depths of space ... something very awesome and existentially fearful about  existing in infinite black nothingness of space. Epic is not enough of a word for the film is it really.. transcendent... something liberatingly freeing about it in the same way as disaster movies are when the protagonists are still alive but at the same time utterly terrifying.. by the time it gets to the almost psychedelic scene at the end with the space pod  i am in tears, not in just a personal way for the character but in a very primal way. and it fels to be very much related to the soundtrack as well!

It is beautiful, Lula. I have never seen the movie, and always wonder why I haven't when it comes up. I will have to watch it soon now, given your recommendation. And I see Rutger Hauer is in it, he is a favourite of mine.

My mom used to love Henry Mancini and she played his records often, so I heard those kinds of soundtrack pieces a lot when I was young. I still love them, they are quite lovely songs in their own right too.

These are  few of my favourites.

Can't have Mancini without the Pink Panther, for sure!

Here is Alison Moyet's version of Windmills of your Mind from the Thomas Crown Affair, the 1968 version. A very haunting song, I always think.

Although it was originally recorded by Noel Harrison for the movie, lots of people have covered it, but to give it a slight Nic connection, here is Eva Mendes singing it for her new ad campaign.

You are right, Lula, perfect for our magical Castle home! I love Enya and of course, I love TLOTR trilogy. That image of her from above with the red skirt swirling about her is lovely, like a fairy in the centre of a beautiful red flower.

She is similar in style to Loreena McKennitt, whose music I also love. Here is a clip from The Mists Of Avalon, a tv miniseries, (can we use tv movies here?), which she did the soundtrack for. This DVD is at the library, and I think I will bring it home to watch, the clip looks very interesting.
