Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release on Blu-ray director David Gordon Green's new film Joe (2013), starring Nicolas Cage, Tye Sheridan, Ronnie Gene Blevins, Sue Rock, and Heather Kafka. The release will be available for purchase on June 17th.

Synopsis: Cage delivers an intensely powerful performance as Joe, an ex-con with a hair-trigger temper who is trying to stay out of trouble, making an honest yet meager life for himself, and the unlikeliest of role models. But when he meets a troubled 15-year old homeless boy (Sheridan) in need of help from a violent and destitute father, Joe is faced with the heart-breaking choice of redemption or ruin.

Joe had its world premiere at last year's edition of the Venice Film Festival.

Official synopsis courtesy of WestEnd Films: Joe Ransom drinks hard and lives tough. His daily routines provide glimpses of a failed marriage, abandoned children and relations that often do not resemble romance. Despite his irresponsibility, Joe works around the clock and has a sleepy charm about him. We meet him as he takes on the job of clearing a forest of trees one by one. During his time in this forest Joe comes across a 15-year-old, Gary and his recklessly alcoholic father, Wade. Gary is a boy who is at that age where he can grow "good" if he just escapes his father's abusive grasp. Joe takes him on as a worker and the two prove to be kindred spirits. Together they navigate this gritty world of characters. Lonely nights, hard sweaty work, first time beers and drunken men with shotguns are the ingredients in this Southern tale of redemption. Joe is the story of the last hold-out of the cowboy age, when it was okay to shoot up a bar room or tell a lady what to do.

Special Features:

  • "The Making of Joe" featurette
  • "The Long Gravel Drive: The Origins of Joe" featurette
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Audio commentary with director David Gordon Green, composer David Wingo and actor Brian D. Mays

That`s really great news! I wish, they would release it in Germany as well, if not in theaters, then, at least, on dvd/blu-ray!
