Nic is at TIFF now, looking cool. There are some pictures at the link. This is not really a review, since they don't say much in the article. But first thing I have seen about Nic at TIFF so far.

Nicolas Cage plays a tough ex-con (again) in the new film “Joe” which had its North American premiere Monday evening during the Toronto International Film Festival.

Attending the gala screening at the Princess of Wales theatre were

Cage is Joe, a hard-living work crew foreman who undertakes to mentor Gary (Tye Sheridan), a troubled teenage boy in need of protection from a violent, alcoholic father. They work together in the grungy woods of rural Mississippi, clearing trees for a lumber company, forming an unlikely bond when Gary runs away from home. Joe has the skills and resilience to protect Gary but, given his unsavoury past and violent behaviour, can he be any kind of worthy role model?

Based on Larry Brown’s novel, “Joe” is directed by Arkansas native David Gordon Green, an acclaimed filmmaker and festival award winner – his directorial debut “George Washington” won the TIFF Discovery Award in 2000.

“Joe” has yet to acquire a Canadian distributor. Until then, no theatrical release date is available.

The 38th annual Toronto International Film Festival continues until Sept. 15.

See you at the movies.

What is annoying me is that other films like "Philomena" and "Gravity" that played at Venice both have released dates and trailers now, this has had excellent reviews and we dont have either! Maybe I am just a bit impatient!

Nah, you've got a point. Gravity had a teaser out a good few months ago, and Joe doesn't even have anything. Probably due in part to the lack of distributor.

I don`t get, why Gravity and Philomena already have teaser and release dates and JOE still don`t even have a distributor? I notice, that they tend to treat Nic`s latest movies (especially, when they are thriller), not in the same way as the movies from other actors, and as his movies deserved to be treated! Hope, they will find a good distributor for JOE soon! And, hopefully, they will decide on enough release-dates for that movie, hopefully shown around the world (Germany included) soon! Thanks for posting it, Lady T.!

Maybe because they're very different movies? Like, Joe is a small character driven piece and general audiences would rather see films with many explosions and car chases?

If so, then it`s still unfair, Enzo!

I totally agree with you Lady that Nick's movies do seem to be treated than others.  Take The Frozen Ground for example.  Two major A list stars yet it is treated with a limited release in the US, and it does not even show up on the Box Office Mojo.  They act as if NO ONE saw the movie which is difficult to see when there are no theatre's showing it.  Very upsetting.  I HOPE they do not do this to 'Joe'.

Oh right, now I get what you're saying. It was in limited release because not many people bought the licence to show the film because they probably thought it wouldn't   have much of a target audience. Because in the summer months people only want to see explosions and car chases, not a good smart movie was great acting. Also, it's an independent film by a new director.

Joe is independent, as you say, Enzo. They don't get the money a big budget, big studio movie like Gravity gets. But they often get lots of critical acclaim and recognition. Nic likes making indy movies, he has said so. I guess I can wait till it comes out on DVD, but I think it might get shown in the arty theatres, since it is getting really good reviews, so I have hope. I think we will see a trailer or two soon.

Well, okay then, never mind, would be nice to see it on the big screen! And it sounds like it has a UK distributor now! biggrin
