Honestly, i am starting to roll my eyes now when i see these announcements, it seems like  they pop up all over the time now. But the premise of this movie sounds interesting, although somewhat familiar.

Hey guys.  Just wanted to chime in on all the rumor news as well.  I am glad Nicolas is getting offered all these Roles, but I want him to start choosing which new projects he wants to work on and DO IT!  I thought Marble City was supposed to start filming and Mickey Rourke isn't attatched anymore.  I merely want Nic to Read the scrips he deems quality enough for him to sign on for and start Filming.  I am interested in Marble City, Wild Side, Pinkville, Joe and Amicus.   I am quite tired of his Revenge type films however.  I am not sure Nicolas fits into a script such as "OutCast" since he hasn't faired well in period pieces and only filmed one.......Season Of the Witch and it was terrible.  Just my humble opinion of course.  Cheers.  CLC

I am pretty sure that IMdB is not really a reliable source for movie news, seems like they post any rumour going.

According to this chinese site, both will star in them, although, it seems, they changed the title into "The Last War":

"The action film "The Last War" tells the story of soldiers traveling through east Asia in the12th century and their relationships with a Chinese prince and princess"
Not sure about the English title, Roxy, but I notice the NEW Chinese title for this movie is The Last War, the Chinese title for a film is often different from its original title. As I read on M-time, the US producer is Arclight Films, and it rumoured that Chinese actress Rebecca Tang or Ziyi Zhang would play the heroine, the Chinese princess, as an insider from Yunnan Film Group revealed... Hayden Christensen will portray an expelled warrior of the Crusades, and Nic's character still maintains, well, as a secret. I recall that there was a rumour that Mr Cage would go to China to star in a actioner three years ago, I am thrilled that Nic will come to China to shoot a movie. Yunnan Province is extremely beautiful place as it sounds like, welcome board, Mr Cage.

The movie is planned to go into production next April. Director Nick Powell and Hayden Christensen came to China to attend The Last War's kick-off meeting yesterday, I wouldn't say 'twas a shame that Nic was a show-up, never mind.

Hi guys, it's none of my business, have anyone checked out the first video I posted, just a suggestion, Hayden talked about Nic at 4:05 mark.

Hi Voodoo child and Lady Roxy, they changed the Chinese title,  the English title of this film is still OUTCAST, which you can see clearly from this video at 00:25

Hi everyone!!

thanks for all the updates on 'Outcast'.

Latest news seems to be confirming this is definitely happening (these days I always keep an open mind with so many Nic film rumours) and  the article from Hollywood Reporter you posted Voodoo child indicates filming is due to begin in April:

Nicolas Cage, Hayden Christensen to Begin 'Outcast' Chinese Shoot in April

Location scouting for Nick Powell’s Crusaders-in-China war movie has begun, with the co-production slated to open simultaneously worldwide in November 2013, says the project’s Chinese backers.

HONG KONG – Nicolas Cage and Hayden Christensen are set to depart for the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan in April to begin shooting the 12th century war romance Outcast, with its Chinese co-producers planning to release the film in the U.S. and China on the same day in November.

Christensen and Canadian helmer
Nick Powell -- making his directorial debut here after a career manning stunts and second-unit shoots – were at the launch, with the latter departing for Yunnan on Nov. 18 for a weeklong scouting trip eyeing locations for the film, said Zhang.Speaking exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter after the project’s official launch in Beijing on Thursday, Yunnan Film Group president Alan Zhang Lun said the project's stellar cast justifies the same-day domestic and international release. “This could maximize its impact,” he said,

China province pacts with H'wood on 'Outcast'

The local government in the Chinese province of Yunnan is linking up with Hollywood to make a co-production called "Outcast" featuring thesps Hayden Christensen and Nicolas Cage, and helmed by Nick Powell, the stunt and fight coordinator on the "Bourne" franchise.

Powell and Christensen were in Beijing to launch the pic, which is a co-production between Yunnan Film Group and a yet-to-be-announced Hollywood partner. Easternlight, the Asian arm of Arclight, will be international sales on the project, and Arclight topper Gary Hamilton also attended the news conference.

Pic is being supported by the Yunnan provincial government, and is being filmed entirely in the southwestern province, which is one of China's most spectacular regions.

Yunnan Film Group was established in 2010 and has already backed 10 movies, including the propaganda epic "Founding of a Party," "Wu Xia" and more recently "Bait 3D," which has taken more than $24 million B.O. in China.

YFG prexy Zhang Lun said that the local government hoped the movie would have international appeal.

"We hope that by cooperating with Hollywood we can promote Chinese films and bring them to the world," said Zhang.

There has been a positive response already from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, which decides whether movies get co-production status or not.

"We hope there will be more cooperation like this, making great movies (about) Chinese culture, I hope this movie can act as a good example," said Zhang Hongsen, vice head of SARFT's Film Bureau.

Actioner will tell of 12th century crusaders in east Asia, and their relationships with a Chinese prince and princess.

"I was really excited when I read the script; I want to do something different," said Christensen, who has already grown a beard to prepare for his part. Pic is due to start shooting in April 2013.

Powell spoke of how he hoped the film would reflect Chinese culture in the way "Braveheart" reflected Scottish history and "Gladiator" had a Roman background. He will come to China in January to hunt locations.

Hamilton said he believed the next stage of development for the Chinese film market would be expansion internationally. "Outcast"

would be important domestically, but would also have international appeal, he said.

Co-productions are the vehicle of choice for getting movies into China. Full co-productions are treated as domestic films, and do not fall under the import quota. They stand a much stronger chance of getting a mainland release, have immunity from blackout periods and generate a greater revenue share for producers and distribs.

But some projects like "Iron Man 3" are reportedly still coming up short of co-production status, and others are failing to be recognized as the genuine article by an increasingly suspicious China Film Bureau.

Hi Tues, I have a hard time getting the video to play but did manage it once, although it stopped partway through. It seems as if he is saying they hope to get Nic, but it is still in negotiations, is that right?

I think this must be the movie that is mentioned in The Guardian interview with Nic. It said he will be filming in China later this year.

Cage has never spent more than four days away from his son, and is trying to figure out if it's fair to take him out of school for three weeks when he films in China later this year.
