Shadow Of The Vampire is one of Nic's production projects, but one I think he was very close to in it's creation. What an incredibly, incredible film. A premise of the film within a film and based on the story of the creation of the film Nosferatu through it's unfolding on and off set for the the filmakers and cast, it is atmospheric, mutli layered and I would say timelessly compelling.

Here is our Movie Synopsis:

Shadow Of The Vampire is a fictionalised account of the making of the classic horror vampire movie 'Nosferatu, eine symphonie des Grauens' focussing on the director F.W Murnau and his crew, and the method actor, Max Schrek who is playing the lead role as the vampire Count Orlock. Some of the crew became frightened but assume it is just Schrek taking his method acting seriously when he describes himself as a vampire and drinks the blood of a bat in front of them. As the story unfold, the truth becomes known.

and here is an interesting review!

"Our battle, our struggle is to create art. Our weapon is the moving picture.

"Because we have the moving picture, our paintings will grow and recede. Our poetry will be shadows that lengthen and conceal. Our light will play across living faces that laugh and agonize.

And our music will linger and finally overwhelm, because it has a context as certain as the grave.

"We are scientists engaged in the creation of memory. But our memory will neither blur nor fade."

--F.W Mernau

I haven't seen either of them yet, Lula. Interesting to read about that Shadow Of The Vampire is a homage to Mr. Mermau and Nosferatu, a silent film that Nic inspired very much? Thank you for posting! I would see them someday Thanks

I saw this movie well before I was aware of Nic's involvement. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen, and also I found it very frightening. But an awesome film.

Wow that is high praise indeed Meg, it must have been a thrill to discover that Nic was connected to the film!

I so recommend seeing both Tues, not least becase they are both outstanding films in their own right, Nosferatu being one of THE most classic from the silent movie era and a horror movie as it should be, genuinely scary but wthout the unnecessary gimmicky gore. If you have not seen it is available in the public domain along with other classics, you can see them all in this topic: http://www.cagealotcastle.com/t38949850/nosferatu-the-phantom-of-the-opera-dr-jekyll-and-mr-hyde/

but I recommend not watching nosferatu before you go to bed! hide

Yes, I believe Nic has been inspred by Nosfertu,(I thnk that is what you mean? not the other way around, unless you are to believe the 'Nicolas Cage is a vampire' / reincarnation theories chortle). He has mentined the film in interviews and his film Vampire's Kiss has several nods directly and indirectly to the movie. Shadow Of The Vampire has it's obvious homage...but do do watch it, what an amazing film!

Last night, I saw it for the first time! I have it since a while on dvd,  and wanted to watch it, but, somehow, I didn`t! So, last night, I thought, was the right time, as it was on tv, so, it seemed to me the perfect opportunity to finally watch it! To me it was faszinating, brilliant, spooky and full of tension! hideI totally can understand, why Nic has chosen that one as the first movie, his, at that time, new founded production firm produced!

Glad you got to watch it, Roxie, and enjoyed it. You definitely have to be in the right frame of mind to watch it I think.
