Here is another essay from Caged Wisdom about another great Nicolas Cage flick: the 1998er movie Snake Eyes:

That was excellent reading, I wish I could put my thoughts about movies down like that, this is so true. A wonderful movie.

Jogging alongside, in front of, and behind Cage as he whirls through the arena, a streak of pure charisma weaving through the corridors, the camera is not the star. The star is Cage. Apart from fluidly establishing all of the film’s major characters in a single(-ish) take, the elegant opening camera movements give shape to Cage’s energy, his rollicking, hyperactive pregame gusto.

Always a treat to have passion renewed for a Nic film I have always loved by a review like this.  When this film came out I was going through a very strange period in my life, that is film seems to be the mascot of, maybe because i had the massive poster on my wall... eyes following me around the room! I

like being reminded about that epic long opening shot ( what do they mean though about the cuts? it was all in one...although they did do more than one take ) and I loved the spilt screen edits too. Mr Cage always excels in the role of a conflicted character, and you can't help but be magnetized by Rick Santoro.
