The Weather Man appreciation thread

Hey fellow Nic fans.  I just sat down and watched The Weather Man again and realized that it is Nic's most underrated film.  The range of acting he reaches is that of no other in any other film he has done.  Nicolas is funny, heartwarming, depressed, thoughtful and overall interesting.  What thoughts do my fellow NicFans think of Weather Man. Discuss.....CLC

I would agree, clc, that it is underrated, I really love this movie, and it amuses me, makes me laugh out loud, makes me sad, cheer, there are all kinds of emotions it brings forth. I especially enjoy the interaction with his children in the movie, I thought it was very well done, the father/child relationship. And his own father/son relationship, tragic. But Nic and Michale Caine were so great together! Yes, one of Nic's best, I believe. I rate it very highly.

I fully agree with you both clc and Lady Trueheart, The Weather Man is an undersung movie, both in terms of the film and Nic's performance. It is also for me another of Nics' movies, like off the top of my head Adaptation, Vampire's Kiss, Lord Of War that has that gloriosly unique genre defying tone, the weather man who has a dark cloud following him everywhere and yet, within that there is a sunshine comedic streak..as Dave Spritz's life unfolds on tragic downward spiral, there is this sadness and yet there is this dry ironic humour, cleverly written and directed to straddle all those elements as well, one of my fave Gore Verbinski films.

I am not sure if for me it is Nic's most underrated movie, there are quite a few that are..Bringing Out The Dead comes to mind...and Vampire's Kiss. which perhaps is having it's rennaissane now,  but maybe more for its "crazy" Cage element than for it's complete absolute brilliance n so many levels.

Hi CLC, long time no see, how have you been? Thank you for starting this appreciation thread.
There's always something new to admire at this movie every time I watched it. Nic's character Dave, whose life is a dynamic transformation from top to bottom. Nic has brought an extraordinary erudition & ingenity to this one as always. Nic and Michael Caine both had shown their awesomely prodigious talents in this movie. It couldn't be better to see Nic co-star with either Michael Caine or Sean Connery for a second time. FIVE-STAR for the weather forecasters & his father & Gore Verbinski jumpingjoy
Nevermind, does anyone else have ever noticed the theme tune to the Weather Man was entirely incredible, tick-tiok tick-tock, as if there was a clock out there if you know what I mean.

Oh my, I love the weather man! It is a movie about truth of life I think, with to me humour in it! I think Nic plays it great and the movie is very nice. I also think it should deserve more appreciation!

Great feedback fellow Cage-A-maniacs. I am glad that you all enjoy the same endearing qualities of The Weather Man that I do. Tues Manic, thanks for asking how I am doing. I just got married and moved into a new place with my wife so I have been busy. Lula, I do agree that Bringing Out the Dead is an underrated Nic film along with Lord of Ware and 8mm ( my personal fave). I thinik that Vampire's Kiss is Nic's baby so to speak and now has a cult following due to it being the first film Nic was his most wide eyed and "crazy" as we say. I say he was more flamboyant but I digress. I also feel that if the film American Beauty didn't come out and set the world on fire in 1999, I think The Weather Man would stand alone as a depressing look into American life on a higher plain than it does. I do put Weather Man close to the level of American Beauty, but that film defined a gereration in a way and is in my Top 5 of all time films I have seen. Anyway, I hope to see Nic in a more subdued state like The Weather Man instead of being so over the top at times. Nicolas keep showing your vast range in acting my friend.....we all love you. CLC
