It is an amazing response internationally! Amazing because although it goes without saying that Nic has star power, Neveldine and Taylor have a particualr style that could be seen as quite niche... BUT it makes me happy that their filmmaking now has that mainstream audience because it really is cutting edge and unique, creating a wonderful synergy with the new tone of this version of Ghost Rider and with what Nic brings to the film this time around. for me they have succeeded in bringing what they intended, with bells on, it is edgy and different but at the same time it is inclusive enough to be enjoyed by anyone.
I think what's happening is the fact that most folks who are reporting on movies are from the USA, where most grand-scale movies originate from. Which means, critics and movie folks alike, only refer to the "domestic" box office. The domestic box office is strictly the gross amount made from a movie within the USA. This number does not include foreign box office grosses.
I think that's why you may see some reports which state that Ghost Rider: SOV did not do well. If you look at the USA numbers only, Ghost Rider: SOV could not make back the money it spent, grossing $51 million when the movie costs $57 million to make. Most USA critics would look at this as some sort of failure.
However, like the movie Prince of Persia, the foreign box office was the determining factor as to the success of that movie. In this case, Ghost Rider: SOV IS a success due to the foreign box office numbers which reflects Ghost Rider: SOV grossing over $76 million.
In order for any movie to turn a profit, it needs to make double the production budget. In the case of Ghost Rider: SOV, the movie would have had to have made at least $114 million.
To date, WORLD WIDE, Ghost Rider: SOV has grossed over $127 million, well over the $114 million mark.
Yes, this number is well below what the FIRST Ghost Rider made, which was over $228 million WORLD WIDE, but given the fact that the budget for Ghost Rider: SOV was much smaller this time around, it's safe to say, that Ghost Rider: SOV was an international success!

Up till now, GR:SoV has been released in mainland China for 7 days (opened to cinemas on Friday, 20 April), however, i only found little about its box-office data due to my poor searching skills According to THIS(posted at 2012/04/24/10:08 BST), GR:SoV has snatched ¥ 24,400,000 for four-day. Battleship(April 20) snatched ¥ 122,000,000, and Titanic 3D(released on April 10) mustered ¥738,000,000. So GR:SOV was in 3rd place. In my opinion, Ghost Rider has been lighting the box-office on fire because many people who watched it in an illegal way, and its not a box-office split, too sad. Now I am just thinking these guys should go to their local movie theatres to see it on big screen and making apologies for what they have said. I have seen pretty much positive reviews, only one piece was negative to be precise, on the internet these days. Plus GR:SOV is a box-office split, so don't take this seriously. Thanks
Thank you, Tues. All this box office stuff is Greek to me anyway, but I suppose people watching movies on-line does make an impact on profits for the movie companies.
Still, the movie turned a major profit for the studio and even though it didn't fare so well here in the United States, foreign audiences loved it and, I'm sure would come back for more should they decide to do a 3rd installment.
Great news Gina, thank you for posting!! I don't know but GR:SOV is one of the top-grossing films, isn't it? Sorry Lady True, I meant GR:SOV was in third place in the box-office. the released date has been changed 4 times, i wonder this is one of the factor. I just noticed that it ended up with around $4,000,000 for first week. Thank you all!

Hey Tues_! No, I don't think GR:SOV is anywhere near one of the top grossing movies but in terms of turning a profit and studio projections, it's right on target!!
I don't know Reggie, movie tickets are relatively cheaper in my country, I snapped up a ticket for GR:SOV online last weekend It is ashamed that the pirated dvds are pretty rampant esp. in mainland Chine.
I'm so glad to hear of this news. Happy for the International success compare to the USA in some states. Where I live it never came at my movie houses at all. SAD!
Hi Nancy! not long now until it comes our on dvd / Blu-Ray, so I hope you get the chance to see it, but it is not the same as in 3D in the cinema I know
