“Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” is likely to top the weekend.
The Presidents' Day weekend box office, which Sony's 3D sequel "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" will likely lead, isn't expected to topple the holiday high-water mark set in 2010 -- but the overall frame should be strong enough to keep the 2012 B.O. clicking at an impressive pace, thanks in part to a moviegoing rebound among younger auds.
Nicolas Cage starrer "Ghost Rider," which opens at 3,174 locations including 2,352 in 3D, could reach as high as $30 million in four days, according to some bizzers. Other tracking services have the film pegged at a more modest launch in the low- to mid-$20 millions.
On Friday "The Vow" and "Ghost Rider" pulled in an estimated $7.4 million and $7 million, putting them at No. 1 and No. 2 for the day. "The Vow" was last weekend's No. 1 movie and "Ghost Rider" debuted Friday.
It may never have ranked higher than third place domestically, but Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeancefound its way in to first place at the overseas box office this weekend with close to $22 million. It opened on top in Russia with a massive $8.2 million, and had a quieter $2.2 million start in Germany. It also retained first place in Brazil with a strong $2.7 million. The comic book sequel has now made around $44 million overseas.
Wow, congratulations to all the cast and crews of Ghost Rider 2!!! =)) Ok, sad to say that we didn't watch Ghost Rider last weekend. :(( My tummy hurts!! :((
International box office figures are the ones that count, film is an international language and Nicolas Cage is admired across the world.
Happy for Nic and Neveldine Taylor, they deserve success with this epic movie, for their combined maverick genius and creative energies... and all their sheer hard work!
