Movie Synopsis:

Nicolas Cage appears in his first leading role as Randy, a punk hunk from the city, in this eighties teen movie. A satiric romantic comedy with undertones of Romeo and Juliet, following the love story between Randy and Valley Girl Julie, who find themselves powerfully drawn to each other despite their totally different styles, friends and lives. Can a valley girl who has it all find happiness with a Hollywood punk?

Interesting Facts:

This was Nicolas Cage's first role as 'Nicolas Cage'. it was important to him to get the part on his own merits, not because of his family name.

His chest hair was shaved like a triangle, for a Superman look.

To highlight the contrast between the two lead characters, scenes in the valley were shot using brighter lighting and pastel colours, and in the city using darker colours and lighting.

The soundtrack was especially selected to enhance the contrast between the city and the valley, and all the music was chosen from contemporary bands by Martha Coolidge and included:
