I didn't  pick up on any sexual ambiguity either, but the voice he used was really interesting for me. That scene where he brushes her off makes scence as the movie progresses. I wondered about it from the clip. 

I also really enjoyed Nic's performance, I thought it was quite nuanced, in a way I didn't expect. As usual, he dominated the screen, and it was impossible to keep your eyes off him. Wow, the physical part of the movie was brutal, I kept wincing throughout the movie, I can totally believe that the cast got battered making this one! Nicole was great too, and she is gorgeously sexy in it. All the cast were good, I thought, I really like the actress who played the daughter, Liana Liberato, I'd say she has great potential.

I did find myself wondering what it would have been like if Nic had played the head bad guy, as he had wanted to at one point, that would have been a kick, I think.

I can't say I loved the movie itself, I thought parts of the plot kind of dumb and derivative, and didn't really like the way they wound it up. Nic's performance though, I am eager to watch again soon, I liked how he went with it.
