We were talking recently here at the castle about how undersung this Nicolas Cage movie is. This is so a powerful and my favourite part of Frank's voice over in the film.

Who can name all the books on the shelf??!! chickendance

It really is...You are very welcome, dear Lady Grace starry

Saving someone's life is like falling in love, the best drug in the world. For days, sometimes weeks afterwards, you walk the streets making infinite whatever you see. Once, for a few weeks, I couldn't feel the earth, everything I touched became lighter,  horns played in my shoes, flowers fell from my pockets. You wonder if you become immortal, as if you've saved your own life as well. God has passed through you, why deny it, that for a moment there, why deny it for a moment there, God was you.

I put this book on hold at the library, looking forward to reading it.

Can't make out all the book titles here. I see:

Symptoms, Illness & Surgery by H. Winter Griffith M.D.

Journey To The End Of The Night which I think is by Louis-Ferdinand Céline.

Difficult Loves by Italo Calvino, not sure of the title but that is the author.

Shelley's Poetry and Prose.

Here is a link to an interesting article about the connection between Calvino and BOTD, I found it quite fascinating.

'transfilmicaly' ........such a  gorgeous word. An excellent article, thank you for posting Lady Trueheart, perhaps a more ironic post modern statement would be Joe Connoly's book Bringing Out The Dead book sitting on the shelf..although most, who are realsim junkies would have scored that in negative points.

I like the idea of Frank as an angel, of sorts, this soliloquy has that to it somewhat. I ned to read the article again when i am not about to go to sleep, as i was not sure where  the author is going with the nothingness idea...although I feel that is a true model of all creation actually that from oblivion and nothingness arises all , my sense from this film was the burnt out emptiness ..mainly through Frank... who in a snese seemed to crave an oblivion. blah, I am in danger of sounding as something or another as that article, lol! nevertheless, how wonderful to read such an intelligent perspective on a Nic movie. starry
