The Ghost Rider Comic-Con panel has been brought forward to 4 PM ( San Diego time ) and the Press Conference before the panel is in full swing! Hopefully we will see some footage soon, but here are some bits and pieces from people on twitter!

@IMDbLive: Nic Cage thinks it's good to have at least one bad boy comic-book character out there re: Ghost Rider 2

Script from the Marvel live blog:

flaming

A DJ from Los Angeles is moderating this panel. He's introducing the Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance portion of the panel.

We're seeing some behind the scenes footage of GR:SOV

Pretty cool: The directors Taylor and Neveldine are really involved with making their movies. They operate the cameras

Seriously, these directors are nuts!

Seeing a lot of footage from them filming. Mark Neveldine films sequences by holding onto the back of a motorcycle and riding on roller blades with a camera in hand

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor just took the stage

Host just asked them, "what is wrong with you guys? You can do anything you want, give that work to other people" "Why give the fun work to another guy?"

"You will see real bones breaking in GR:SOV"

They say they never ask the actors or stuntman to do anything they wouldn't

Apparently someone got really hurt while filming and it's in the film. Intense.

John Whitworth, who plays Blackheart, came onstage

Idris Elba plays Moreau (sp?), and he just took the stage

Nicolas Cage, Ghost Rider/Johnny Blaze, took the stage to huge applause

FOOTAGE TIME (for us)

They brought 3D footage to show us

everyone puts their 3d glasses on.

Seeing some footage, maybe a trailer?

We just saw the Marvel Knights logo flash up during the footage!!

Whoa. Ghost Rider looks badass.

The bike is intense. Fast Driving. OHHHHH

Nicolas Cage will actually be playing Ghost Rider himself, not just Johnny Blaze, unlike in the previous Ghost Rider movie
Friday July 22, 2011 4:22 Strommy
4:23

Agent M:
The security made us put our computers down during the footage. boooo

Brian says he feels Ghost Rider is one of the most badass movies of all time. He's not really a super hero, he's a horror movie. His super power is he sucks out your soul. It's completely insane, and that's what drew them to the project

The directors literally risk their lives to get shots, and Nicolas Cage says it helps get them all into an elevated mindset. "There's a real buzz to it"

Cage, Neveldine and Taylor pushed each other and came up with ideas with each other

Idris Elba just mistakenly called Cage "Mike," to laughter from the crowd

Idris Elba talking about how even though he hadn't ridden on a motorcycle in 20 years, but Neveldine and Taylor convinced him to do his own stunts on the motorcycle

Johnny Whitworth says the directors are very frenetic--there are two cameras going at all times and no two takes are the same

Taylor is giving props to the performances of Cage, Elba and Whitworth--"they will blow your minds"

[Comment From Thomas Rochester Thomas Rochester: ]
do you have a sense of the rating for what GR will be?

Fan asking Nic Cage which of all the comics characters he'd like to be if he could be anyone. "Obviously Ghost Rider. 1 because it happened, 2 because I loved it growing up"

It's officially unrated right now, but there was an F-bomb dropped during the footage we saw. And it was REALLY VIOLENT so I assume it'll be R-rated.

Cage was always drawn to the monsters and the not-so-good guys

OOOh Idris Elba just said he wants to be Luke Cage.

Are tehre any other comic projects Elba would like to do? Luke Cage, he says

What drew Cage back to the Ghost Rider role? He had more to say. He wanted to go in a scarier direction. The first one was a Grimm's Fairy Tale, which is what they were going for, but this one is more of a nightmare

A pair of twins just asked Cage, "When it comes to working with directors, is two better than one?"

Do Mark and Brian like working in 3D? They do, especially for a movie like this where you can immerse yourself in the Ghost Rider's role

Why did they choose to not have the Hell Cycle in this movie? It's still a Hell Cycle, it's just based on a real bike. Anything Ghost Rider rides turns into a "Hell Cycle" version of it. He rides in a giant strip miner and that gets all decked out

Taylor says that making this movie was such a rush, they'd love to make another one--but watch this one, see what you think

What does Cage think is different about the Ghost Rider in this movie vs the past? He's been living with the curse for several years now. He's more edgy, sarcastic. He didn't get to play Ghost Rider int he last movie, so now he got to think about how the Ghost Rider would move

In the first movie, Nic Cage didn't get to play Ghost Rider. It was stunt or CGI. But he actually gets to do all the movements for GR in SOV. That's rad.

There are tar bubbles on the Ghost Rider's suit as well

Johnny Whitworth describes Blackout as a sociopath with homicidal tendencies...who then gets even worse when he turns into Blackout

Elba describes his character as a wine-drinking, french, warrior monk

Aaaaaand the Ghost Rider portion is over

Another script from a live blog covering the GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE panel at Comic-Con, this time from Cinemablend!

flaming

4:15: Opens with behind the scenes footage. Camera moving the camera. Using rollerblades with the camera hanging off wires with the director. Remember what I said? Nuts.

4:17: Real bones breaking in Ghost Rider as the stunt men were promised that any time they got injured, that shot would be used in the film

4:19:Johnny Whitworth, Idris Elba, Nicolas Cage all on stage. Here comes the trailer!

4:19: That trailer was actually pretty damn awesome. Seriously dark, lots of flame, much better CGI and A LOT of action. We may need to start getting excited for this one.

4:22: Taylor says Ghost Rider isn’t really a superhero as much as he is a horror character. The horror elements were what drew them to the project.

4:23: Idris says that Taylor and Neveldine are totally insane and will “throw you under a bus” at a moment’s notice. Given the film, I think he’s probably being literal.

4:25:Audience member asks what superhero Nicolas Cage would be. Cage has the simple answer: Ghost Rider. Not really sure what questioner was expecting.

4:28: Idris Elba says that he may not see it happen, but would love the chance to play Luke Cage. I have to say, I really hope it happens.

Comic-Con 2011: GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE Panel Recap

by Adam Chitwood    Posted:July 22nd, 2011 at 4:49 pm

ghost-rider-2-comic-con-slice-01

Sony packed the house in Hall H today, and opening the panel was our first look at Neveldine/Taylor’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The sequel stars Nicolas Cage, Ciaran Hinds, Idris Elba, Johnny Whitworth, and James Remar. Hit the jump for my recap of the panel, which included our first look at footage from the film in 3D as well as a featurette showcasing the insane nature of Neveldine/Taylor’s directing style.

Moderator Ralph Garman kicked things off with a pretty kickass featurette showcasing Neveldine/Taylor’s directing styles. It was pretty insane, as it showed that the directors operate the camera themselves most of the time, following motorcycles on rollerblades, hanging off wires, and jumping off buildings. At one point the frame freezed on an actor and camera operator hanging over a cliff, pointing out that the actor was a stuntman and the camera operator was the director. We saw a small bit of pre-production footage and shooting, then the reel ended with: “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, f***ing Your Shit Up in 3D February 2012.”

The directors then came out with Jeffrey Whitworth, Idris Elba, and Nicolas Cage. After briefly explaining how visceral the film will be (the directors said “you will see real bones breaking in Ghost Rider, not CG bones), they rolled some footage.

What we saw was basically a trailer, and “f***ing your shit up” is in no way a misleading headline. This thing was brutal. Ghost Rider in flaming form was super dark, and kind of crazy, and the stunts were fairly insane. This is definitely an extreme version of Ghost Rider (he literally pisses fire), and fans looking for some brutality in the character will be happy.

Cage said he was happy to actually play Ghost Rider in flaming form this time, saying he didn’t get the chance to do that on the last film. He also said he was happy to come back for a sequel because he felt he had more to say about the character. Speaking about differences between the sequel and the first film, he said he’s been living with his head on fire for several years so he’s a bit more acclimated to that aspect of his character.

Taylor described the character as “pure nightmare,” saying “there’s no logic to it at all. He’s not a superhero, he’s more like a horror character.” Going even further, he explained that his power is he sucks out your soul. That’s the Ghost Rider’s superpower.”

Whitworth talked about how Neveldine/Taylor’s style is rather extreme, and the camera was always in his face, but their stunt filming was crazy. The directors also explained that they changed the Hell Cycle up a bit, saying that anything Ghost Rider rides transforms into a hell-vehicle.

When asked if they saw any more Ghost Rider films in the future Neveldine replied that there’s nothing that would be more fun than doing it again.

Elba’s character is a French wine-drinking motorcycle-driving warrior monk. He was also asked if there were any other superhero characters he may or may not be pursuing, to which he replied in a deep voice, “Luke Cage.” He said he’d definitely love to play the character, and they just need to know that people want to see it happen.

My pleasure Lady Trueheart! They were apparently very hot on not letting people record the panel, understandably,  probably because of the Ghost Rider footage shown. But for those who have not yet seen it, we do have the video of the entire panel Q&A (without film footage) here!>>>>
