I suppose really, an impartial measure would take all of these into account. But I must always go with how I feel about the movie, because I believe that is the point of making movies, to give something to the audience.
Yeah , I guess this is why i put the word 'success' in there...it means different things to different people. on the one hand, box office means very little, Bad Lieutenant received huge public and critical acclaim but did badly at the Box Office, but on the other hand it show a vote for the silent public, for example Ghost Rider kicked ass at the box office but got panned by the critics. But my appreciation of a film's success never ever comes from either a critics opinion or a box office result.... I can only say whether a movie worked for me or not...but i found it very difficult to choose between my experience on first viewing and a film with longevity that I love watching over and over again.....
That's a great question Lula Argante! The first three points don't particularly matter to me. I find fascinating everything that Nic finds fascinating and when his interests are reflected in his movies I will definitely enjoy them. I consider both Season of the Witch and Drive Angry successful movies even though they weren't box office hits. They are just great, and there are so many things to love about them...
Thanks for voting voodoo child, I completely agree!
...and perhaps that is a category for the poll i didn't consider...Nic's enjoyment of the movie, or the level of his own personal interests reflected in it, being a criteria for measuring it's success! it is truly great to hear Nic talk in interviews about his passion for a certain movie though i am sure he would not want that to colour our experience of it, he has always said in interviews that our own experience of a film is what counts!
Although, I read the articles, critics and reviews, I prefer to watch it myself, and build me my own opion on that! Because, different people have different tastes, and a movie, that one person doesn` t like, another person, who sees it, loves it! And, let`s face it, Nic`s movies never grows old, anyway!
