Nicolas Cage and John Travolta to Face/Off again in 2 Indie Thrillers?!

There have been a number of upcoming Nicolas Cage project rumours flying around recently, but I have to admit, these really excite me, as does the thought of seeing these two uber actors together again!

Apparently both Nic and John Travolta are in the running for two indie thrillers, 'Shrapnel' which is about a Bosnian soldier seekng revenge on an American who wounded him, and 'Sea Trial' based on the novel by Frank De Felitta and directed by his son, Frank De Felitta.

Thanks to Vulture for the info!

I hope this happens! They work really well together and are my favourite actors. I know Nics films havent done great but Travolta REALLY needs a hit doesnt he???! Havent liked anything he has done since Civil Action in '99 I think.

This sounds exciting!

I don't actively seek out Travolta movies but I have liked him in anything I've seen him in. I would enjoy seeing them together again. Twitter might never survive it though, just the rumour has them twittering like mad.

I think it would be an interesting idea for Nicolas and Travolta to partake in a film together since both are struggling at the box office and are on their way out of the cinema in my opinon.  I luv Nic but people really dislike him right now and wish he would quit acting. Travolta is in the same boat and both are fringe "A" list guys at the moment.  Maybe a film together would generate nostalgia and do well or it could be looked at as desperation by both artists.  I think both need to work on their own films and keep away from each other and chose co stars they have never worked with to provide a much needed spark.

Lol! well maybe that is a good thing?! I feel that this duo together are an exciting synergy, esoecially as antagonists of each other. they both have that uber actor and naturalist actor capability, in face Off it was like watching a dance. *has several mega Face/Off flashbacks *

Travolta starred in three of my favourite movies of all time -Saturday Night Fever, Blow Out and Phenomenon- and , of course, Nic starred in a few more of my faves!! Yes i agree, neither are box office gold anymore but I do hope with the right script, direction and performances both artists can make a strong "come back". This must be about Travoltas eighth comeback!!!?

I await updates.........

Hi johhny! Saturday Night Fever is pure gold nod.gif, I have not seen others you mention, I loved JT in Pulp Fiction too.
From where i am standing Nic didn't go anywhere and doesn't need a comeback but I agree the full force of these two together again would be mighty cinema!!! starry

I think people think Fever is just a cheesy disco movie..but it is actually quite a dark and powerful film. Like an american Quadrophenia (another fave of mine!) for me.

You must see Blow Out and Phenomenon..love em both! The first is an underrated political conspiracy thriller from the early eighties......Quentin Tarantino chose him for Pulp Fiction because of this film.....and Phenomenom is one of his best ever performances in my book where he plays an ordinary guy who has a very special ability. It is very sad though but also uplifting!

I think both actors are in line for a Comeback reguardless of what others think in this forum.  Nic and Travolta are both aging actors that have a flickering light on their respective "stars."  I love Nicolas, but realize his star is fading fast even though it is hard for me to stomach it.  I will continue to watch his films as long as he is making them.  I personally dislike Travolta and think he is a sell out hack.  I would love to see Nicolas Cage and Bruce Willis cast in Shrapnel rather than Nic & Travolta.

I actually met Travolta in early 97! He was a lovely guy, generous with his time...and a warm and genuine character. He signed my copy of Fever and had a lengthy conversation even though he was in a rush so I am grateful for that! He has gone "a bit strange" in rece nt years it seems but he had had quite a few personal traumas. The scientology thing does not help I dont think. Big obsessions with his hair (a bit like Nic I guess!) but like I said, I dont think he has done anything good for years.

I would love Nic to work with Dustin Hoffman or Pacino or even DeNiro as well as directors like Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorscese (again).Perhaps he also needs to work with more up and coming actors like he did in Kick-Ass. It paid off for him.

I suppose everyone has an idea of what kind of movies they would like Nic to do, who to act with or be directed by, but I think Nic will follow his own path, he doesn't need anyone to tell him how to be a box office draw at all. He has his own vision and he dances to his own music and I admire that. It is one of the reasons I am a fan. He is such an admirable person and excellent actor, let's stop critiquing his choices and just enjoy the show!

I couldn't agree with you more Meg, I think this whole box office thing is getting over egged as well. I won't repeat myself though for fear of boring everyone to death,  I kind of said it in my (R)evolution of Nicolas Cage article.

Thanks for the film recommendations Johnny, Phenomenon grabs me especially....i think it is directed by Turteltaub and I like his films. starry

I enjoy the discussion here on this fansite and love the different opinons viewed by everyone who posts thread topics.  I believe that this community is pretty neat kind of like the Dave Matthews Band board at antsmarching.org.  I just wish people who accept my views and differnt opinon about Nic instead of thinking they are purely negative because they are not.  I am just passionate about things I care about in life and expect the absolute best effort from the artists I love.  I don't really admire any artist but I do believe they should put out the best work for their fans since we are paying to support their extravagent lifestyle.  It is important to me who Nicolas works with in his choice of director and what talent is acting with him.  I feel that director is almost more important than the lead actor because a director can take a great script and turn it into pure beauty on screen.  Some of Nic's greatest work has partly been due to the directors that have pushed him and expected nothing but grade A work from him.  The directors I am referring to are:  David Lynch, Werner Herzog, Ridley Scott, Spike Jones and Oliver Stone.  I think when Nicolas works with a director that has worked on a project with him before, he relaxes and can mail it in persay.  I guess I am more criticle of Nicolas and what he has been putting out as of late.  I am glad that everyone here enjoys everything he puts out, but I know he can put out a film like BL: POCNO in every film he makes, but I think he has gotten complacent over the years and his career is faultering for it.  I love Nic and know that he is an honest man who love his fans and loves to work, but films like SOTW and Drive Angry are terrible and you all know he can do better.  I think he could choose more diverse roles and do a COMEDY to change it up because he hasn't done a funny movie in a while.  I appreciate everyone on here and am glad that I am able to discuss my views on here with everyone.

Hi clc, I am sorry to say for me that does not ring true...and is not what comes across in your posts. Different points of view are refreshing, but you have said in your posts that we (anyone who does not agree and still enjoys nic's choices of project, of co- stars, his artistic leanings or how he is doing at the box office ) are not living in reality and looking at things through tinted glasses.

Rather than allowing others their own opinion, you keep reiterating your agenda, as if to disillusion all us disillusioned fans who hold our rose tinted views.

Your posts have also made costant sweeping generalisations about Nic and his work, in one you spoke on behalf of the whole of the united states.. absolute statements get people's backs up because they are not true for them?!

you bring up the same agenda in nearly every single post, either creating new posts to say the same things in different ways or hijacking other posts (like this one) and taking them off topic. We get it!

And i also believe if the time has come for a fan that they no longer can enjoy the work of the star they are a fan of, and only have negative things to say about their film choices, their costar choices, their current work, pretty much everything they are now doing, even go so far to make suggestions 'for their benefit', as if a star has to be a puppet of their particular desires, maybe it is time to address whether you are a fan or not. Certainly living in the past and lamenting, it or trying to fit Nic in your particular box or way of seeing things, Seems to me to be the more disillusioned outlook about the actor and acting choices Nic is currently making.
I am lucky that my tastes align with Nic's choices, i am thrilled to bits by the film choices he is making in recent years and i do find it rather annoying that you take it upon yourself to speak upon my and other fans behalf, and that you infer we are not discerning fans.

I'm glad you mentioned negativity..This forum was created as a positive inspiring place for fans, yes we each are entitled to our opinion and we do not have to like everything Nic does, but your only agenda here seems to be to criticise, and it is bringing down the vibe of nearly every thread. Certainly if i found myself in the unfortunate position of not liking the way Nic had evolved as an actor i may just not choose to be posting on a forum.

It doesn't come easily for me to say such things clc, and i feel i have given you enough space and time to get a feel for the vibe you have been creating on the forum with the majority of your posts, but as admin for this forum i feel a responsibility to speak up. This will be the last time I do though, so i hope you feel able to take on board this feedback. Noone is trying to change your point of view, we just have heard it over and over. maybe it is misguided belief you will enlighten us, or Nic (who won't be reading it). and now we want to focus on what we love and enjoy about the work of Nicolas Cage not keep dwelling on the past or negativity

This is not a paid job for me, so i want to have fun when i come here, discussions are fine but let's change the record now.

if we could now get back to the topic in hand, a celebration of John Travolta and Nic working together i'd be grateful!

Thanks, Lula
.

The video clip from 'Inside The Actor's Studio' now has it's own thread in the Library, where we post Nic interviews. Here is a link to the thread, if you care to comment in that thread.

I have seen Phenomenon, and enjoyed it very much. I definitely think it would be cool to see Nic and John in a movie together again. But I don't put too much faith in all these rumours of Nic and new movies, seems like they are coming fast and furious these days. If I see a sequel to Con Air actually happen I will take back these words though!

The only actor I have ever really given any real thought to wanting to see act with Nic is Jack Nicholson, he and Nic are my all time favourite actors and it would be a tour de force for me to see them together! The combination of Nic and Nicole Kidman in Trespass should be quite powerful too.

There are so many good actors, and I love seeing Nic with the young up and coming ones like Claire Foy and Amber Heard, the possibilities are endless really.

Now if we could go back in time and see him play with some of the screen legends that I love, wow! That would be thrilling too.

Saw this at this site:

http://www.newstalk.ie/2011/programmes/all-programmes/the-right-hook/the-right-hook-movie-club-scene-set-3/

...Fourteen years after Face/Off, stars John Travolta and Nicolas Cage are to do at least one more movie together…..In June they will begin shooting Shrapnel the story of a Serbian soldier who initiates a campaign of revenge against the American officer who wounded him…..According to trade paper reports they have also signed on for Sea Trial, an ocean-based thriller from a novel by Frank De Felitta (Audrey Rose)…

Kinda makes it sound like a done deal. June?

And more on that collaboration, maybe it really will happen! It's a long article, I will post the part relevant to Nic and Travolta. Whoop!! Actually, I am getting quite excited thinking about this, because I can almost visualize how awesome that story line would be with those two in it.

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/sns-rt-us-johnmctiernantre76d79u-20110714,0,7209037.story

The appeal created a window for him to potentially shoot the action vehicle, which after numerous slips and turns is said to star Nicolas Cage and John Travolta -- an effectively histrionic pairing in 1997's "Face/Off," which grossed about three times its $80 million budget worldwide.

The script, by heating-up screenwriter Eric Daugherty ("Snow White and the Huntsman"), has seen many changes since it was listed among the gems in the 2008 Black Book. The story changed eras but still turns on a mano-a-mano duel between an American soldier and his former Bosnian adversary in the wilds of the Rockies.

Financing is en route from the Belgian film fund Corsan, run by Antwerp financier-turned director Paul Breuls.

Everything will be jake, a person with knowledge of the production told TheWrap, as soon as the check from Corsan hits home. Meanwhile, our survey of Corsan, the company's reps at Paradigm, the director's agents and lawyer, and the actors' press reps brought a string of no comments.
