Finally!  An article celebrating Nic, his fearless choices and his immense talents.  I'm so tired of him being the bullseye on a target from everyone and their brother who for some friggin reason feel compelled to jump on the "Hate Nic Cage" bandwagon.

I agree with you White Fay and this article is what all Nic fans out that want to hear at last! I'm tired of all the hate thing going too and him being picked on all the time. He is a wonderful actor who is not afraid of roles he loves to do that other actors won't. That is way I became a fan of his because of his special talent of being far out in his roles.

Yeah, it just made my day to read this blog, so good to read something with some validity and actual thought behind it. But there is lots of positiveness out there, I believe, it is just all the lemmings following mindlessly who get all the attention.

Glad to see Nic getting some love in an article for once in a long while.  When I look up his IMDB page, most news tidbits are all in a negative viewpoint.  I think he will continue to act well and suprise people when he enters his 50s.  smile

woohoo! a refreshing, fun, intelligent and for me, truthful read! thumbsup.gif I agree !!! bouncyfrog
great find Lady T, thanks for posting! highfive

*nods head enthusiastically reading all of this*:

"Nicolas Cage is the greatest living actor of ever and always.

I have no qualms in making that statement and I feel it contains no inherent bombast. The man is one of my idols, and definitely a role model for me as an actor. I have my reasons for this assertion.

Nic Cage is Fearless - Watching that clip there can be no doubt the man goes balls-out in every role he plays. See that part with him shouting the alphabet at the secretary? A lesser actor might've done "ABC" and thought, "Okay, that gets the point across." They may have even pushed it to "EFG," just for a little flair. But no, Nic Cage does THE ENTIRE ALPHABET. Put on a bear suit and drop kick a woman? He's down. Wear a ridiculous hairpiece or wave a revolver the size of a polar bear's junk in an old biddy's face? Hell yeah, he'll do it. Play twin balding, overweight brothers with masturbatory fantasies about Meryl Streep? He will play that part and he'll do an amazing job of it.

Cage has, quite simply, surpassed the boundaries of social inhibition and image that would hinder most actors. He fully inhabits the role no matter what it calls on him to do.
And He Does It Well - It'd be one thing to just be fearless and lose himself in the role, but Cage has proven he can win an award or two (or three) while doing it. Sure, most know he won the Oscar in '96 for "Leaving Las Vegas," and you probably even know he was nominated again in 2003 for "Adaptation."

He's also, however won awards and nominations so numerous and varied even IMDB doesn't list ALL of them. He's been recognized by both the Chicago and Boston Critic's Associations, The Independent Spirit Awards, The MTV Movie Awards, Golden Globes, SAG, even the Teen Choice Awards.
He's not only talented and broadly-appealing, he's got a shit-ton (it's metric!) of proof laying around his assuredly badass lair to prove it.

He Made His Own Way - Cage is Francis Ford Coppola's nephew, and he could easily have just used that calling card to make his career. But instead, he changed his name and set off to play quirky, interesting character in a number of genre flicks and early indies like "Valley Girl," "Raising Arizona," and "Vampire's Kiss." He made his own reputation in a business where nepotism rules.

Further, he only picks parts he WANTS to play. I've never seen a Nic Cage movie where I ever thought, "Wow, he must've needed that paycheck." He consistently chooses intriguing roles that have a genuine interest to him and give him the opportunity to broaden his palette.

He's a Nerd - Of the highest order, too. What does Cage spend his movie-star money on? Collecting comic books. Before selling it off in a major auction, he owned one of the most impressive collections ever, with even Superman's first appearance. And where did he get his inspiration when he chose to change his last name? The lesser-known Marvel superhero Luke Cage, Hero for Hire.
Not to mention his eccentric collection of strange pets like an octopus and albino snakes, or his fascination with mysticism and voodoo.

Nic Cage, you are my Hero."

and... i am glad we all agree in this thread that we are tired of reading the same old tired, glib, generalising and sometimes not thought through comments on Nic and his work. I for one am actually literally tired of it...I choose not to fill myself up with that crap any more! to quote the article:

"I am saddened that so many people seem to find it cool to hate on Cage seeing how he has been entertaining us for so long and has maintained a huge and inspirational presence in the industry. His wide variety of characters has given us some of film's most memorable moments and it has been a blast seeing him evolve as an actor over the years. You may not love each and every film he is in (like all actors) but you have to admit he is a more than capable actor with amazing range that is not afraid to try something new no matter how much criticism comes his way.

I am a lifelong fan Mr. Cage. As an avid moviegoer, aspiring actor/director/writer, and comedian you have my full respect and admiration. Your talent and efforts are recognized and most appreciated! Keep it up!

Nic Cage is the paramount of what we love here at Wrinkled Meat: a badass who takes chances, does what he loves, and owns up to his inner geek."

Ditto to that at Cagealot Castle!! castle
starry I wish the authors found their way here!starry
