Transcript of the Podcast:

Opens with a montage of classic character lines:

Johnny has his hand, Johnny has his bride, you want me to take my heartbreak and put it away and forget?!
,,,,,,

We both know I'm a drunk, and I know you're a hooker and I hope you understand I am a person who is totally at ease with this.
,,,,,

"you're treasure hunters aren't you"
"More like 'treasure protectors'"
,,,,,

I'm the only one who can walk in both worlds, I'm Ghost Rider.
,,,,,

"You alright?"
"Yeah I'm good, feel like my skull's on fire, but I'm good."

Transcript of the interview:

K & B: No actor has a more schizophrenic career than Nicolas Cage. He's back with a new film this Friday called 'Season Of The Witch'.

Nic welcome back to the Kev and Show my friend, how are ya?

Nic: I'm well, thank you, Happy New Year to you both.

K&B: You as well. I was just thinking about you last night you've been good with your time since you've been on the Kevin and Bean show, we first had you on about fifteen years ago I don't know if you remember this or not but you came in with Laura Dern and you guys were promoting, if I recall, Wild At Heart at the time. And you guys came into the studio and you were so psyched, cos i know what a huge Elvis fan you are, so psyched about the song that you sang and you asked us before you left, you said "guys is there any way you could play my song from the movie on the radio" and we said "sure" and then you ran down to the car and got in and we played it, and you cranked it up, you listened to yourself singing for the first time, and called us back and said "I'm on the air, I'm on the radio"...(voice in background)"yeah he did."

Nic: I don't remember that, but that's fantastic.

K&B: It was fun, I always remember it was one of my most favourite celebrity moments just because the pure joy you had of being, you know, singing a song that you loved and then hearing it on the radio, which is a thrill to many musicians but not many actors get a chance to do that..

Nic: Well, yeah I think I was trying to live out some sort of fantasy there. What a wonderful story, thanks for sharing that.

K&B: I have got to tell you it's been such a schizophrenic career because you've made so many strange out of the blue different choices that you wouldn't expect. Most actors seem to kind of get in a rut and they kind of do the same stuff, but you really do have a wide range, a wide variety of movies that you're interested in. What got you into The Season Of The Witch?

Nic: oh, well first of all thank you, thank you, I do like to keep transforming myself whenever possible, I like to keep it eclectic, um but Season Of The Witch again it's another chance for me to find myself in a new kind of movie, a new kind of character, I went from Bad Lieutenant where I played a coke head cop to 14th century teutonic knight in the crusades and I just thought what a wonderful segue, um I'd always wanted to play a knight in a movie, i used to pretend I was a knight in the back yard because my father built me this wooden castle and I wanted to be a knight, so I don't know why it took this long to get there, but thirty years..and I think for the last 3 years I'm trying to celebrate the movies of like Vincent Price and Christopher Lee because those are the movies I enjoy watching when I have my own free time, I like to get lost in like 'Mask of the Red Death' or 'The Devil Rides Out', the old Hammer horror films and so this is a very sincere expression for me and I hope you like it, I really enjoyed it.

K&B: What would be your favourite movie of all time?

Nic: *pause.. thoughtful inhale*
There are different favourites for different reasons you know, some of them, you know I like... anything Kubrick did I always loved... there was just a phenomenal signature, everything he did was just so remarkable and I don't know how he exactly did it, but it's like virtual reality back in the seventies when you look at the lighting in 'Clockwork Orange', but Kazan was really the reason I got into film acting because of 'East Of Eden' with James Dean and 'On the Waterfront' with Marlon Brando..

K&B: right

Nic: There's different movies for different reasons, you know

K&B: And you're at the point now where you get to be in, you choose alot of movies because you're a big star and you've earned that, but now you can work with a guy like Christopher Lee, you just namechecked as one of your heroes, and now you're in a freaken movie with him, I mean are you able to forget about that when you're in a scene, looking at the dude and just think of him as he's the character?

Nic: Well look, the thing about Christopher is, he was, it was somewhat intimidating because he is somebody that I grew up with and I admired so much, but he was really funny and kind gentleman and I just was in awe of how he's still doing it you know. 'Lord Of The Rings' he was in, he just doesn't stop and I hope I can be that lucky to keep working like that. And he has a great relationship with his wife and talks about executive breakfast at The Hilton,  i mean he's just a great guy.

K&B: It's funny when you talk about you wanted to play a knight since you were a little kid, because you bought all these houses that looked like a castle and i never put two and two together, but that must be what's working there huh?

Nic: Well it's a bit like 'Rosebud' in Citizen Kane because I don't own a castle but I did at one time, you're right I think because my father built that little wooden castle for me i think that was sort of like my office where i'd go as a little boy and i really learnt to use my imagination and that's what I do as a film actor.
Look I'm not really fighting a demon ...

K&B: What?! (laughter)

Nic:..these are things i have to imagine so...I think that's why the Castle was always so dear to me.

K&B: We're running a little short on time I apologize, i'd like to play a clip, I forget who it is but he's telling you what needs to happen with the witch. What you need to do and what you need to accomplish in this movie.

,,,,,Clip ,,,,,

K&B: Ya..I'd say, "hey get someone else" (laughter)"good luck with that!"

Nic: It's Christopher Lee actually telling me to do all that

K&B: That's amazing. hey atleast they didn't make you put on the fancy accent Nic, you just got to be good old Nic Cage

Nic: well, if you really listen to the movie it's kind of like a mid atlantic accent and they wanted us to sound more like that, because in those days this was before that kind of posh sound that came out of France..

K&B: Right

Nic: ....Before it infiltrated through those areas so it wasn't that sound at all

K&B: Right, well you're a fascinating guy, so much fun to watch as an actor and it's always a pleasure to have you on the Kevin and Adam show.
Season Of The Witch is the film that opens up this Friday everywhere, please check it out.
Nicolas Cage Happy New Year to you again man, thanks very much for joining us on the programme

Nic: Take care

You are welcome Lady True, i decided to do it instead of sleeping after you so rightly mentioned earlier that podcasts often disappear....

Yes I have started to wonder whether Nic himself would find our castle concept an honour or a painful reminder of his losses...I so hope with all my heart it is the former, for that is the intention, a place of honour, celebration, imagination, for the Knight we all admire so dearly! multicolourlove

A question, excuse my naivety..I may know what a segue is, and i am atrocious at them, ( it's a fine art I have developed, lol ) but I have no idea what an 'executive breakfast' is???!

Yes the Rosebud Citizen Kane mention...interesting because on a purely random personal note, after I created the current header with the misty castle in the background, the openng of Citizen Kane came to mind...in a very vague kind of a way!!starry

Oh, and I don't see how Cagealot Castle could be seen as anything other than a tribute, the concept is quite clear!

Ah breakfast at the Hilton? it has been a long while since I had that particular pleasure! thanks!! flowerface I still don't know what an executive breakfast is though, but I guess it means a business kind of a breakfast...and Christopher Lee has an incredible career, so true!
I recall him being as generous about Nic in an interview on the Alan Titmarsh show ( a uk morning show ) I must find it. starry
