The tradional English song GREENSLEEVES has always been a favorite of mine.  So much so, that I actually had it at my wedding sans lyrics many moons ago ( I always had a thing for castles....)

Here's a link to the song.  It's not one of my favorite versions but the pics included with the link are breathtaking.

I, by far, like this version better....

Also, here are same various lyric versions...

Beautiful isn't it? I love the soprano's voice, Litsa Skartsatou, lovely.

It isn't true  that Henry the Eighth composed it, though that is a lovely story.

What a lovely idea White Fay! I will be falling asleep to this tune now.... I haven't heard it for years! Lol, i'll let you into a secret, when i hear this song, i feel like a naughty school girl sitting in a concert... and i want to make a noise, stick my tongue out and and run down the isles! nana.gif we'll have to be sedate and well behaved for this to be our theme ! I love that about castles...their flavour can range from stately and serene, well laced up bodices, embroidery, afternoon tea, and harps ... And then the dancing begins, the bodice bursts open, the lightning dramatically strikes the castle turrets, the wine flows and the wind roars!! starsmile

I don't know exactly what it is about the music, not so much the lyrics......but I have loved it since I was probably in about 3rd grade.  It simply resonates within me to my very core.

It is a very beautiful evocative melody... Perhaps a connection in a past life white fay? Maybe we were all residents in a castle at some previous point in history...!flowerface

It is also the melody for the Christmas carol, What Child Is This, one of my favourites.

I think it is lovely that you used it at your wedding, Lady Fay, that must have been very beautiful and meaningful for you.

Quite possibly some sort of past life memory, Lady A.

I've been thinking on this castle life we have here and I've been reminded just how much I really have identified with 'castle' life in the past.

One memory is that.....when I first started earning regular money as a teen I decided to decorate my bedroom.  I painted it in shades of a french blue and a soft yellow and the first thing I bought for it were three framed poster prints of renassanince castle life.  I loved those prints and really wish I hadn't gotten rid of them as I grew older.  I kept them long enough that I remember hanging them in my dining room apartment but for some reason found no place for them when I bought a house.

I also.....know without a doubt that I lived sometime in the 15th century as I had a flashback of such a time dancing in a great hall....again....while in my teens.

This place....this 'Cagealot Castle' seems to have brought some memories to the fore for me lately....one of them being this music...that I have loved all my life.  Sounds strange I know....but still....very true.

White Fay said: "...I really have identified with 'castle' life in the past."

That is interesting, and also true for me, Lady Fay. I suppose it isn't unusual for young girls to dream of living in a castle, but it was my constant daydream when young.

I was always fascinated by medieval times and stories of King Arthur, I also loved any books set in castles, and still do, actually.

So, this beautiful place that Lula has created here is a real refuge and source of happiness for me and contributes greatly to my fantasy life.

And in this castle there are so many conveniences not found in medieval castles, all the mod cons, you know, and indoor plumbing! And magical elves who whisk around with duster and mop in hand whilst we denizens of the castle persue our pleasurable pastimes (and persue our pleasurable knight.)

I love the description of your teenaged bedroom, very french provincial, which I like so much.

Lol! serves me right for writing such a long reply .. It just disappeared in a puff of smoke no doubt!!starsmile
Beautiful posts White Fay and Lady True, nice to read your castle links would love to read more! And it doesn't sound strange at all White Fay!starry

For me, the castle vibe is not gender specific really...i guess girls are encouraged down the princess and fairytale route and boys the knightly realm, but I love both!

castle's epitomize the fairytale for me, not the twee kind, but the magical mysticalh mythical kind..ones that are both light, magical and fun as well as darker more mysterious..like the brothers Grimm. I've always loved the fantastical and almost other worldly...magical creatures....dreamlike landscapes....mysterious woodlands....the ancient stone walls, the architecture, the different chambers and the whole energy of castles...

Lol, when I was young, even though it was considred a boys game, I used to play 'dungeons and dragons' with my brother and friends...there were always castles and citadels and magical creatures and magic! Loved it!

So glad to read you both love the castle theme here! I was a little trepidacious in the beginning i have to admit...after the word Cagealot just came out of nowhere (meant to be) reminiscent of Camelot, Arthur's Castle here in England, and where Nic was to receive his knighthood of creativity, it had to be purplestar 'Cagealot Castle'! purplestar

oh sweet melancholy....

Thank you Sir Pickle...indeed you did find my stone walls, woodlands and fairytales, romance and the pathos combined.

An honour dear Sir...
With gratitude I send you love and light! sun.gif

and much thanks also to the musician who played all four parts I believe?

The lyrics to Lady A's beautiful song from Sir Pickle...........
Gawd....to have such a true love..........

A TIME FOR US
(Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet)
(Words by Larry Kusik, Eddie Snyder / Music by Nino Rota)

Andy Williams
Johnny Mathis - 1969
Henry Mancini (instrumental) - 1969

A time for us, some day there'll be
When chains are torn by courage born of a love that's free
A time when dreams so long denied can flourish
As we unveil the love we now must hide

A time for us, at last to see
A life worthwhile for you and me

And with our love, through tears and thorns
We will endure as we pass surely through every storm
A time for us, some day there'll be a new world
A world of shining hope for you and me

For you and me

And with our love, through tears and thorns
We will endure as we pass surely through every storm
A time for us, some day there'll be a new world
A world of shining hope for you and me

A world of shining hope for you and me

The lyrics to "What Is a Youth".....thank you Sir Pickle.  It truly is a beautiful melody.

What is a youth? Impetuous fire.
What is a maid? Ice and desire.
The world wags on.

A rose will bloom
It then will fade
So does a youth.
So do-o-o-oes the fairest maid.

Comes a time when one sweet smile
Has its season for a while...Then love's in love with me.
Some they think only to marry, Others will tease and tarry,
Mine is the very best parry. Cupid he rules us all.
Caper the cape, but sing me the song,
Death will come soon to hush us along.
Sweeter than honey and bitter as gall.
Love is a task and it never will pall.
Sweeter than honey...and bitter as gall
Cupid he rules us all

Thank you, Sir Patrick Pickle, you have chosen a beautiful song for me. I love the music from the movie Romeo and Juliet, and Andre Rieu is a wonderful musician and conductor whom I have listened to many times.

A modern day gallant song....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3T5WFG3zcA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbTyjVh37yM

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far

To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star
