There is much I could say about the mystical poetry of Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi...if I were alone on a desert Island with only one book it would be his.

A Sufi poet of Love of the highest form, not romantic or earthly love but the divine fire of spiritual Love that is our True Nature, burning away all that is not true of who we really are, in spirit.
A Love that is not about an other ( either romantic or divine ) rather the state of Being that simply Is.... the essence of our soul and highest Heart.

I give this preamble for context about the Love which he speaks. He also talks about 'wine' and 'being drunk' but these refer to the transcendent state of divine bliss he often found himself in.

A persian poet of the 13th century, who was also a whirling dervish ( a practice to bring him closer to the divine truth ) this is not religious poetry but a spiritual journey to oneness with the universe.

A current favourite of mine.

Love Brings You Here

Live to give everything away

So nothing keeps us apart

Love brings you here

Light-atom pulsing

Always at the Sun's Heart

Oh please do Lady Fay...can't wait! it's such a joy to know how deeply you also feel Rumi! I recall the various poems you have shared of his over the years, it would be wonderful to also have this homage to him here at the Castle! heart.gif

I posted this one over on Cagefactor, the first time I read it was on a day I was yearning for confirmation of the next Ghost Rider after weeks of waiting and speculation... I think the news broke that day! The synchronicity was astounding!flame.gif

As Nic himself would say though.. enjoy for whatever meaning it has for you.lotus

Patience makes my Soul and robe burn.
Mine: everyone's.
I say your name; my mouth breaks into flame - The two worlds Blaze.

Seek the wisdom
that will untie your knot
seek the path
that demands your whole being.
Leave that which is not
but appears to be
seek that which is, but is not
apparent.

With love you cannot bargain
there, the choice is not yours.
Love is a mirror, it reflects
only your essence,
if you have the courage
to look in its face.

You came suddenly like resurrection,
like an infinite blessing
and my thoughts burned like trees on fire.
You came today like God Himself,
geenerous and full of grace,
holding the key to my freedom in your hands.
Both traveller and the road,
the beginning and the end,
You are the gatekeepr of the Sun.
For so long I have lived in pain, suspended
between my longing and my need for bread.
now that You have risen in my heart
and taken over my thoughts,
I am breaking the pen and leaving the paper.
My Sun has risen!

Behind the blood-stained curtains of Love
there are fields of flowers
where the lovers wander.
While the mind sees only boundaries
Love knows the secret way there.
While the mind smells profit and quickly sets up shop
Love sees untold of treasures far beyond.
Lovers trust in the wealth of their hearts
while the all-knowing mind sees only thorns ahead.
To wander in the fields of flowers
pull the thorns from your heart.

~ The Alchemy Of Love ~

( read by Deepak Chopra )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WpdwZ_ymSU

You come to us
from another world

From beyond the stars
and void of space.
Transcendent, Pure,
Of unimaginable beauty,
Bringing with you
the essence of love.

You transform all
who are touched by you.
Mundane concerns,
troubles, and sorrows
dissolve in your presence,
Bringing joy
to ruler and ruled
To peasant and King.

You bewilder us
with your grace.
All evils
transform into
goodness.

You are the master alchemist.

You light the fire of love
in earth and sky
in heart and soul
of every being.

Through your loving,
existence and nonexistence merge.
All opposites unite.
All that is profane
becomes sacred again.

~ Rumi ~

Contemplation

Just this morning
Contemplation
led me into
the rose garden
that is neither
outside this world
nor within it

The Alchemy of Love sounds like it could have been written about Nic, doesn't it?   Love it!

Truly, for me not, as much as I am Nic nut, Rumi's poetry to me s something very sacred and transcendent, about universal love and spirituality, and that is what The Alchemy Of Love means to me! and also, this poem of all Rumi's poems puts into words my own spiritual journey and resonated so deeply in my soul the first time i read it...a true experiantal understanding of love and oneness above and beyond the individual yet within every individual!
I think Nic may be a Rumi fan though, if there is one thing in life i wish for all to discover it is Rumi poetry...and the true pure spiritualty it conveys. Nic is lucky to have visited the whirling dervishes of the Sufi tradition in Turkey, perhaps he also visied Rumi's tomb.

Image in the Mirror

The image in the mirror seems different
But sublime days arrive when you know
Viewer, image, and mirror are one: the same
Silent calm eternal shimmering.

Some Kiss We Want

There is some kiss we want with
our whole lives, the touch of
spirit on the body.

Seawater
begs the pearl to break its shell.

And the lily, how passionately
it needs some wild darling!

Atnight, I open the window and ask

the moon to come and press its
face against mine.

Breathe into
me.

Close the language-door and

open the love window.
The moon

won't use the door, only the window.

~ Rumi~

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field.  I'll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
doesn't make any sense.

From Essential Rumi
