Lol! You have to see the whole movie for the context Lady True! It really is a stunning performance from such a young actor (the film came out in 1989, so yes probably 24 or 25 when it was made!) Incredibly talented to get that balance between extremely humorous and extremely disturbing...in fact it defies classification and that's what makes it special to me.
This film is classic Cage and has longevity..people will hopefully return to this for years to come and i truly hope Nic feels proud of this movie.
Fell in love with this magnetically disturbing film since the first time I saw it.I think the more abstract Nic's approach to a movie is, the more I'm going to love it. Now I'm about to search for those numb movies Nic has talked about in many interviews that inspired him in creating Peter Loew's facial expressions!

Lol, it's the facial expressions, the eyes and eyebrows, the walk, the shoulders up to the ears, the fingers, the whole body language... It really takes a great talent......you can see it echoing many of those silent movies.... And I think Lady True you will see the obvious homage to Nosferatu...... but I was also struck by John Barrymore's tribute to Peter Loew () when watching Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde!
Yep, seen this movie, Lula, and I can see how Nic was getting inspiration from the silent movie actors. Was curious to how he referenced to them though, I don't believe I have read anything on that before.
I love the movie, it is wonderful, but I will always find the voice annoying as hell!
I wonder how John Barrymore knew about Peter Loew back then, probably time travel.
humble apologies dear Lady True... Where ever did I get it in my head you hadn't seen it?
Hmmm I have read several interviews where Nic has mentioned silent movies, his love for them and also how he has taken inspiration for movement, expression and gesture not only in Vampire's Kiss, but Moonstruck and I think Raising Arizona as well!
And it may have been one of my many dreams that I think are reality, but I do recall him saying once that Lon Chaney was his favourite actor! Now to find something where he directly links all that with Vampire's Kiss....

Ahh looks like I missed that Lula's post ,how carelessly of me!Some parts look like direct parallels to Peter Loew, this is so far- sighted of John Barrymore. Thanks for for reminding about these films,Lula Argante!

"I wonder how John Barrymore knew about Peter Loew back then probably time travel"
And Voodoo Child wrote:

LOL!!
you ladies crack me up! Indeed...such a homage to Peter Loew from John Barrymore there...I think I'm seeing some winks at other Nicolas Cage characters too especially the part where his hair flops down just so... Lol!
dear Voodoo child don't worry about missing things, sometimes it is quite fast paced around here! I just discovered a load of things our Lady True had posted in the Nic movie music section I hadn't noticed!
I'm so glad you could see the parallels with John Barrymore some of them are very direct for sure!..does anyone recall Nic ever mentioning him directly... I only remember the Lon Chaney reference.
Peter Loew is an outstanding character for me. I read today that Vampire's Kiss was simply a send up of the Vampire concept and movie..I don't agree with that...I feel it's working on several levels simultaneously!
