Hugo was superlative, beautiful, evocative, a homage to film and to Paris, and I loved eveything about it. I can't remember the last time I felt so wrapped up in a movie. The images from real early movies used in the movie are unforgettable. It is just awesome, but I would not really call it a children's movie at all. Beautiful acting from all the cast too. And Christopher Lee, what a joy.
Well in first place I wouldn't watch this kind of movie, but when I did it actually was pretty good. It's a good movie wich contains a nice history story. Sometimes it was a bit tedious to me, but I shurly would recommend it if you like history movies :)

Ahhhhhh.... Excellent! I can't wait to catch it on my VOD. It's amazing tha Christopher Lee is still doing movies. He's like a glass of wine, he gets better with time.
@ Eva: Was "Tower Heist" funny??
I recently watched: "The Help" and "The Hangover Part II". Oh, I also watched "Friends With Benefits." All movies were EXCELLENT!!! I laughed so hard during The Hangover Part II, it was even funnier than the first Hangover!!!
"Friends With Benefits" made me have an all new respect for Justin Timberlake...

A strange, sleepy film set in a strange, sleepy Winnipeg. Best watched with Christmas lights in the room. Contestants from different nations compete for the title of having 'the saddest music in the world'. As with almost all of Guy Maddin's work, the film is shot and edited (sometimes acted) like a queer cinematic gem from the 1920s.
@ Sprocket: Yikes! The tone and theme of the movie sounds so depressing if watching around the holidays! But the movie def sounds intriguing - indeed!
@ Eva: Glad to know Tower Heist was fun to watch. I will definitely look forward to it when it comes around on my VOD.
I recently watched "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." BEST APES MOVIE EVER! Even better than the original movies with Charlton Heston. Excellent!!!
I also watched "Apollo 18" and "Midnight in Paris." I am not a fan of Woody Allen at all since the whole sleeping with his kinda daughter but "Midnight in Paris" was def an interesting movie although the ending seemed 'incomplete'.
We saw War Horse in the theatre a few days ago, it was good, beautiful cinematography, but I could not find any connection with the characters, except the horses, of course. It did make me desire even more to visit Devon, so lovely at the first of the movie when it shows the horses running in the countryside, contrasting horribly and effectively with the horrors of the war scenes later.
A Matter of Life and Death - watched this with Jay snug in bed. Such an eccentric, beautiful, romantic film with so much love for art and humanity and the whole wide world betwixt here and Heaven! I'm the least nationalistic soul one can imagine, but Powell and Pressburger films make me, if not exactly proud to be English, then glad I live in a country where I have easy access to their films!! Just glorious.
My last Not-Nic-movie was the sixth part of the "Harry Potter"-series: "Harry Potter and the half-blood-prince". Nice movie, but sad, because, Dumbledore dies at the end.

Just looked that movie up, Sprocket, it sounds right up my alley! So surprised I have never heard of it, going to check and see if we have it at the library, I really want to see it.
Last night, I watched "the lord of the rings - the two towers". It`s the second part of the Trilogy. And, I discovered details, that I didn`t recogniced last time, I watched it. Because, that was a while ago. But, I love that movie! And, my fav scenes are those, where they speak in sindarin (an elvish language). I know, that it`s a fantasy-language, but it sounds so beautiful!
