I've just joined this 'ere forum! I'm British and a long time fan of Cage, since about the age of 14, when I caught Birdy when my parents were out of the house - it was the first film I ever loved, besides from those children's films I'd watched when young. Now I'm 23 and still a big fan. No other actor is quite so earnest about the strange notions they have; no other actor so willing to try something peculiar. Also, he has the best furrowed brow the big screen has ever seen! My favourite of his films is probably Wild At Heart but he's great in so many! Nice to meet you all.

I'm glad to hear of the Wild At Heart love, Lula! It's such a special, bewitching film. I think it any other director made a homage to Elvis and Wizard of Oz, it would seem sarcastic or glib, but Lynch really makes you care about the characters and Cage is just mesmerising! The scene with the car crash by the side of the road haunts me every time I see it.
This post excites me Sprocket, I'm enjoying the way you think and write! And it occurs to me, you may well enjoy roaming in the castle turrets, especially having read some of your blog, would love to hear more! We have a post about Wild At Heart in there so I'll not ramble too much here but just agree with you..the roadside scene stays with you..in fact the whole movie, like potent art, leaves an indelible scorch upon the soul.
Ok maybe a tiny ramble....It has always struck me that the Elvis and Wizard of Oz elements woven into the movie are perhaps less of a homage and more of or as much an organic unfolding during the creation of the movie emerging from the unconscious almost at times psychedelic layers of the Lynchian mind. I may be talking out of my faery behind (more than likely) there though. I have read he is a very prepared director but also that he's very in the moment and likes to sculpt and create right there and then isn't that how the best art emerges?
