I just noticed the similarities between these two scenes from two favourite Nic movies of mine. I wonder if you will agree that they are movie winks?

From 'Red Rock West':

and from 'Next":

The first part of this clip is the part to watch ( although you can watch it all, it's all good!):

I saw this at IMDb. But I rarely notice cars in movies so I can't attest to the accuracy of this statement. What say you! Sounds like movie winks to me.

....In The Rock (1996), Stanley says he drives a beige Volvo.

....In Face/Off (1997), After escaping from the prison, Archer (Nic) steals a beige Volvo.

....In Con Air (1997), Cameron  drops the dead body of "Pinball" from the plane, and it falls onto a beige Volvo.

ReallY?....all with a beigh Volvo eh?  Maybe it's an inside joke with Nic in his real life cuz um.....he strikes me as the kind of guy who pays serious attention to every detail in his movies.

very cool movie winks Lady True!w00t.gif the beige volvo...kind of made very cool by Stanley Goodspeed !
it wouldn't surprise me if Nic had some say over the cars of many of his characters, he has mentioned in interviews about how he has insisted on certain cars for certain characters....Leaving Las Vegas comes to mind...and I have this very vague recollection of a mention from someone who worked on Drive Angry on their blog about Nic making sure they had the right cars!

Now I am wondering when Dave turned the car into an old banger by mistake in The Sorcerer's Apprentice, why wasn't it a beige Volvo!! LOl! rolllaugh

Hmm, just watching in Moonstruck when Nic knocks over the table, and just before he grabs Cher and kisses her, he brushes his hair back, such a cool little moment in time.

It reminds me of the clip from Drive Angry 3-D which some of us have viewed over and over again....oh sorry, maybe that's just me ....at the very end when Nic coolly brushes his hair back.

Now I'm wondering if he does that in any other movie scenes?

interesting...... well observed Meg, I love that part of the clip we've seen for Drive Angry!
In that whole scene in Moonstruck, for me it is like Nic has become the wolf, the way he scratches his stubble almost with a wolf's claw!furious.gifblowkiss

BTW...not sure if it has been said before but the 'near the end scene' in Wild at Heart where he gives his kid a lion (I think) reminds me of the end scene in Con Air wherre Cameron Poe gives his girl a bunny.

Hey, yeah, I noticed the similarity when I saw Wild At Heart, but then I forgot about it.
Cool wink, Zoo Keeper.

Oh yes...NICe one zookeeper...Wild aT hEART and Con Air have echoes of each other  in the sense that Nic plays a dad who is in prison and is not able to be there for the birth of his child, meeting them for the first time on his release! teddy.gif

Yes! It is ye olde movie winks thread again!!!

action

this time RUMBLEFISH

and BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS!!

both feature the siamese fighting fish...in Rumblefish it is the motif of the whole movie and in Bad Lieutenant Terence finds one of the fish (the second of many creaturs he encounters in the movie, hallucinated and real!) in a glass at the beginning of the homicide investigation with a poem:
“My friend is a fish/He live in my room/His fin is a cloud/He see me when I sleep,”

and the image is evoked at the end with the aquarium scene...

in the same way that the climax of Rumblefish is very....fishtanky. yellowflowergrin

themes of entrapment and freedom echo in both too, it seems to me.

Good call, Lula.

Do you think that little circular head toss move Nic does in Zandalee and in Face/Off is a wink? They both amuse the hell out of me, at any rate!
