I've always believed that the reason the "SWEET HOME ALABAMA" is in the movie ConAir is because Nic had just married Patricia Arquette and she once played a character called "ALABAMA".

I also think that the characters Ben and Riley in the National Treasure movies are named that way as a nod to LMP's children. He was married to her at the time he must have gotten the first script. Ben and Riley are LMP's kids names.

Wow White Fay! Amazing insights, I'd not considered them before!
The ones that really give me a buzz are the references between films. Even now after watching a movie for the billionth time, I'm noticing references and winks to another of his movies! I wonder if Nic deliberately puts them in for fans to spot!
I thought of another one this morning after watching Honeymoon in Vegas last night, I could be wrong but I think that when Nic as Jack Singer calls up his dentist friend for advice on Tommy Corman, the operatic song 'La donna e mobile' ( "Woman is fickle" ) from Verdi's opera 'Rigoletto' is playing in the background. Years later, Nic as Jack Campbell is singing this at the beginning of The Family Man! , This can't be a coincidink... surely?!
In 'Rumble Fish' Motor Cycle Boy (played by very cool quiet talking Mickey Rourke) asks his brother Rusty James 'Why. Why, why? Why, why? Why are you so f***ed up all the time?'
and check out Nic as Yuri in this, (according to the director he improvised this) he uses the exact same line in a scene between the two brothers in Lord of War, around the 4.40 mark!
I like to read about them, Lula, and find it fun when you post them, but I never seem to pick up on stuff like that. They are cool, though, like easter eggs. Don't stop posting them, I enjoy seeing them. And now when I watch the movies I will be watching for them.
Lol... You wait meg, you will start seeing them now the seed has been planted!
I don't watch a movie specifically to catch these 'winks'... that would be detracting from the experience of the movie where i like to be completely submerged and saturated...but they arise and i love them!
I wonder if Nic puts them in for his own enjoyment or likes the idea of his fans noticing them?
I'm not sure this is a wink between movies as such, perhaps more of a connection or a nod?! Or a combination of projection and wishful thinking on my part..what do you all think?!
In Vampire's Kiss, newly plastic fanged-up Peter Loew crawls along the ground and runs around a park in New York to catch a pigeon which he then eats, raw. ( in interviews since, Nic has reassured us that no pigeon came to any harm. )
In The Sorcerer's Apprentice, after landing his metal eagle on top of the Chrysler building ( not a sentence you'd come out with everyday ) in New York, Balthazar Blake pets and fixes the leg of an injured pigeon before watching it fly away (also a homage to Tesla who loved pigeons)
Anyway I found myself touched by this, as if Nic was performing a healing act on the spirit of the former pigeon and on any bad pigeon karma left over from Vampire's Kiss!

Another movie wink! Lady Trueheart and I discovered this fruity little one in The Secret Passage....
In Wild At Heart, Sailor is describing a sexy encounter he had in the past to Lula, where the woman had said, "take a bite of peach".......
In Face/Off, on board a private jet before take off, Castor Troy asks the air hostess, in his inimitable way, to sit on his knee and says, "you know I can, uh, eat a peach for hours"!
Au contraire dear White Fay, maybe it just means we're sad nerdy geeks! Lol! Though I prefer the term Nicolas Cage superfreaks! You def also fit in that category and that's meant in the NICest possible way, lol!

Rrrowwrrr! Hot, very hot!!
And I thought you said you hadn't seen Valley girl Lady T...you just quoted one of my favourite Randy lines!!
And phwoooooaaarrrr indeed and yeahhh baby.... Lucky lady...body lucky Lula
Mind you...Sailor never reveals whether he 'satisfied' the wishes of the lady with the peach pants....
No seriously! You two have me beat by miles. I may have at one time known all this stuff but it's like my gray matter has decided to let it go. Early Alzehimers, perhaps? I mean....geesh....who would WANT to let all their Nic knowledge go? It's been a wild ride tho and I am truly enjoying reading both of your posts cuz it brings back up memories! Such fun!

Woohoo! Here's one for us all... And you're going to have to help me with this one folks because I can't remember 'em all...
Martini glasses!!
Whether these are movie winks or not, it is still always cool to see one reappear in a movie!
The first one that comes to mind in a really stand out kind of way is the scene in Leaving Las Vegas, where Ben is sitting on a bench at night on the side of the busy Las Vegas strip, martini glass in hand. ( To me, this moment epitomizes the 'crumbled elegance' Nic once described Ben Sanderson as having. There he was, obscenely drunk and yet kind of together enough to look almost sophisticated in a shambolic kind of a way... )
Now...where else does a Nic character have a martini glass I wonder.........see how many we can get! go!
