woohoo! My Kick Ass DVD with 'interchangeable art cards' arrived a couple of weeks ago!
The Art cards are of all the main characters and you get to choose which one peeks out of the cover of the dvd! Of course, on mine BIG DADDY goes on top! (entendre intended..Nic in that tight costume and mask....*le sigh*)
The cards each have this tag line at the bottom:
' I may not ................... But I can Kick your Ass'
Big Daddy's is:
'I can't BE INVISIBLE, but I can KICK YOUR ASS'
Which made me chuckle as I always used to joke about Nic having an invisibility cloak!
The director's commentary with this DVD is a double bonus, it really gives us an insight into the foundations for the movie, the pragmatics of filming, the controversy that has surrounded the movie, the winks to the Superhero genre, and most interestingly, and a pleasant surprise to me, Matthew Vaughn talks about the composition of the soundtrack for the movie.
The commentaries can sometimes take away from your pure enjoyment of and immersion in the film ( so I'd definitely recommend watching the movie first if you haven't already! ) but the insights into the soundtrack really enhanced the movie experience for me.
Anyone else got this dvd yet?

Oh, I do! I got it not too long after it came out. Mine didn't come with the cards, though, which is too bad because they sound really cool! I've also listened to the commentary, too. I thought it was kind of funny when Vaughn was talking about how they first used that one song (I can't remember the name of it at the moment, unfortunately), as a joke, but than they just thought it fit in with one particular scene of the movie, and it's funny because it does! I also liked the bonus feauture about the comic, though I would've liked to have seen a segment on there where they talk to the actors.

I loved the commentary too, I don't remember that bit, i will have to listen again!
I don't know about you, but sometimes it is as if the director is invisible somehow, i guess ( to state the obvious! ) because it is their work but not their face on the screen. So I really like the director's commentary, and hearing about their vision. which is odd. as I am very much one for diving right into the experience of the film and not dissecting it, but in all honesty every director's commentary i have heard, so far, have enhanced that experience!
How do others feel about commentary from the directors?
