NICOLAS CAGE is heading to Romania to film Ghost Rider: The Spirit of Vengeance in 3D later this year, it's been confirmed.
The project will be directed for Sony's Columbia Pictures by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the filmmaking duo behind Crank, Crank: High Voltage and Gamer.
Hot News revealed that the comic book adaptation would shoot in Romania this autumn, saying it would be the first big American production shot in the country since Cold Mountain in 2002. Ghost Rider 2 will also be the first 3D movie to be filmed in Romania.
This confirms earlier comments by Nicolas Cage, who is reprising his role as Johnny Blaze - the stunt rider who becomes a flame-skulled vigilante.
He had told MTV in July: "I'll be filming it in Romania, which is exciting, since that's where Dracula's castle is. The Ghost Rider has to ride up to Dracula's castle."
He said of the co-directors: "They're brilliant with camera, and they make movies look new. They have a way with camera that is unquestionably unique and is a signature for them, and I think that kind of energy for this style of film will take it to a different level."
FlashForward writers Scott Gimple and Seth Hoffman wrote the Spirit of Vengeance screenplay, which is based on a story Batman scribe David Goyer had written nine years ago.
Goyer had last year explained: "It's not exactly a reboot. It's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What Casino Royale was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to Ghost Rider.
"This story picks up eight years after the first film. You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later - he's just in a much darker, existential place."
Goyer is executive producing, along with Mark Steven Johnson, who directed the first film.

As you know I'm a Ghost Rider fan so I am very excited for this film!
One can only deliciously imagine it is going to be choc full of edge with the Crank duo at the helm. They once strapped the camera to a skateboard .. Maybe we will get a bikes eye view in Ghost Rider! And with Dracula's castle as a backdrop...(how awesome it that!) it already feels like this film may have a deeper, darker flavour.
Hey Nic..... Fancy riding up to our Castle? The drawbridge is down and the gates are open!
The sequel of Ghost Rider (2007), the action adventure film starring Nicolas Cage as a Marvel Comics character, will begin shooting in Romania on October 1, 2010. The news was confirmed by Bogdan Moncea, Marketing Manager with Castel Film (www.castelfilm.ro) who told FNE that this is the second largest American production for Castel Film and Romania since Anthony Minghella's Cold Mountain, shot in 2002. Moreover, this will be the first film shot entirely in 3D in Romania.
Castel Films representatives were contacted by Sony Pictures Entertainment (www.sonypictures.com) who had already scouted locations. The film will be produced by Columbia Pictures Corporation (www.sonypictures.com), part of Sony Pictures Entertainment and producer Ghost Rider (www.sonypictures.com). Nicolas Cage is the only actor in the cast confirmed for FNE. Shooting will wrap on March 1, 2011. It's not confirmed if shootings will take place only in Romania.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will be directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who made Crank in 2006. The script is written by Scott Gimple and Seth Hoffman, after a story by David Goyer. The project has a budget of 60-70 million dollars. Castel Film is providing facilities. The locations will not include Bran Castle, although Cage said in an interview that he would like to drive his motorcycle up to the doors of Dracula's castle.

No clue. These dates just seem a bit odd to me. Most movies take a minimum of three months to film. They just started filming Trespass according to reports so if this GR report is true, Trespass is only a six week shoot or so. And why would GR2 take so long to film? Unless they are taking a month off for the holidays or some such thing. Anyway....looks like Nic is booked back to back with movies again. How the man doesn't have a heart attack is beyond me.....Oh....and on a side note....I hope to GOD he doesn't go for that emaciated look he sported in the first GR movie. I found that a bit to hard to handle.

I totally agree about the emaciated look, didn't like it, way too thin. Have been hoping he doesn't try to get that abs of steel thing going. I read an interview he did where he talked about being really hungry, that is so unhealthy.
He is not exactly buff right at the moment, though. Don't get me wrong, I love the way he looks, but I think he looks less toned. Looks more his age, and I like that.
My favortie look of his is more along the lines of how he looked in Windtalkers. Strong and healthy looking. I think that currently he's looking the best he has in at least seven/eight years. When a person of a certain age goes for that massively toned, lean look, it really doesn't look good in my book. It just looks obsessive. I'm sure that as Nic ages, he'll always look good. It comes with the territory of being an actor.

Ooooooo I do agree White Fay, Sir Nicolas is looking swooningly tinglingly handsome these days!
And ladies..Johnny Blaze was HOT and not just in the obvious way! lithe and ready to pounce.... But I agree the idea of anyone going to extremes to get a look physically, actually hurts my soul. I read his muscles were very real despite the rumours they weren't, and the result of rigorous working out, but he ate sugar cane or something to make them really pop on the set...and that saddens but that's only because I've come to appreciate the body as our divine vehicle to be nurtured with all there is that is health and life giving, which for me, sugar cane is not. No offense to anyone else's views on that though, that's just me.
But rest assured, if Sir Johnny Blaze visits our castle, he will only be given the finest, most magical, health giving life giving soul healing super food imaginable! Fit for a super hero or super anti hero.

Lots of 'Castle' links going on here! 'Castel Films'.. In the land of Dracula's Castle..There is speculation going on about Ghost Rider meeting Dracula himself!
Is anyone else as excited as me about Ghost Rider riding up to the gates of Bran Castle?!
( Thanks to Justin Jackson on Flickr for this fantastic shot of the gate to dracula's castle ! )
It is going to make an incredible backdrop for the film, nestled amidst the Carpathian mountains and the evocative beautiful Romanian landscape!
Is this Dracula's castle? Wow, it is beautiful! Anyone read The Historian, an awesome and scary book, some of it takes place here. That book made me put Eastern Europe on my list of places to see before I die.
I believe that Sir Johnny Blaze must like castles so he will be sure to put ours on his list to visit, for some healthy recreational fun and games! Take his mind off the bad stuff, and better for you than jellybeans.
I have a feeling this Ghost Rider will not have jellybeans, more likely a bottle of some kind, a lot darker and harder, this one sounds like. Will there be a Roxanne? It will be interesting to see.

Agree about the hotness, lithe like a panther he was! I think he goes to extremes in all he does, not always healthy for body and spirit.

Windtalker, yes, yes, so beautiful, that scene where he is running ... my Godess, I feel quite flushed again....pant, pant.... Agreed that he looks his best in a long time now, he can't but look good, he just always will, so well made, isn't he?

It is such a stunning looking castle, for sure Lady Trueheart!
Yes, the pictures I posted previously are Bran Castle, taken to be Dracula's castle. However on this site http://www.draculascastle.com/index3.html it is stated: "This castle should not be mistaken for the actual Dracula Castle (now in ruins), which is located on the Arges river at a more secluded site, Poenari Castle." ? Anyone know?
Lol, I definitely think this incarnation of Johnny Blaze /Ghost Rider is going to be much darker, and edgier. Maybe the jelly beans and karen carpenter just can't keep the devil away any longer. The synthesis of Nic with the 'Crank' pair is a very exciting prospect indeed! I wonder about Roxanne too... Perhaps the Ghost Rider's heart will be too dark and tormented for love, after all it's a heavy load to carry...I'm kind of interested in that tormented, isolated angle..that's very Dracula. maybe his higher calling will keep him in even more isolation.. an interesting thought..all that darkness and yet..Ghost Rider does have a higher calling.

Here's a script overview for the Ghost Rider followup, Spirit Of Vengeance in which where Johnny Blaze is in life, new enemies & allies he interacts with, and more is revealed. Check it Out
It's well know now that Sony/Columbia has a sequel to the 2007 Ghost Rider flop in the works, with production commencing as soon as this fall. And with Crank duo-directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor at it's helm, many are curios of what's in store for Johnny Blaze's return, in addition to what the star Nicolas Cagerevealed with MTV last month.
Exclusively from Comicus, a script review has emerged sharing a few details on the film's setting, plot points, and a new characters our Brimstone Biker will interact with. NOTE that the original review was in Italian, so the Google Translator was used and a few areas may be difficult to understand.
"After the success of the first film is not exciting among fans, Sony / Columbia Pictures will try again with what in effect is basically a sequel, though at the same time is the way to revive the character and the franchise some lightening issues that had covered the first film, especially as regards the presence of Roxanne, which does not appear in the script.
Johnny Blaze found years after the events of the first film, self-exiled from the world. In this way, hopefully, not having contact with people, able to control the spirit of Vengeance. Blaze is approached by Moreau, a monaco quite unusual part of the monastic order of Michael, the warrior angel. The Monaco but needs the special talents of former stuntman to trace a woman named Nadya and her son Danny, who must be protected at all costs, as there is on his trail Roarke, who is none other than an old knowledge of our hero (you certainly understand who they are) and is interested in the guy for a particular reason.
The script strongly underlines the tormented soul of Johnny Blaze since its first appearance. For he is a man who just wants to hide and who sees in his power a curse, more muted than in films directed by Mark Steven Johnson. The script focuses on the background in this way also "historic" that covers Ghost Rider, explaining in more detail to the viewer and the protagonist that the spirit of Vengeance is appearing more than once, and with different identities over the centuries. An interesting part of this working thanks to the characterization, creating a strong bond between the characters of Nadya, Danny and Johnny, also not forgetting Moreau, well shaded from start to finish. Only link with the previous film is a little flashback on the Origin of Ghost Rider, the covenant between Blaze and Mephistopheles.
A defect in particular, however, is to underline the main plot of "Mephisto" bad, or to Roarke, of course already seen in myriad other films in one way or another, and perhaps a little degrading, who expected more from this point of view. Ultimately the work is pretty good but could do better, also seen the one from which you started earlier. For the most passionate fans, there's a final twist, but much nerd. Not reveal more."
The script written by the famous David S. Goyer, seems far more interesting than the original film. Evidently, everything here may not actually end up in the final product. But Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance is expected to begin filming this Fall in Romania, in the infamous 3D!

Wow.... What a great thing to wake up to, thank you voodoo child!
Excited to hear Ghost Rider is called upon by Archangel Michael.. How intriguing! He really will have a higher calling! Maybe that will provide the tension and inner conflict with the character, if he likes to keep himself to himself.
I'm glad they are emphasizing the tormented soul in exile aspect. In that sense I really can see Johnny Blaze riding up to the gates of Dracula castle, giving a look of pained recognition.
Thanks again for sharing voodoo child, great find!

An old cowboy went riding out one dark and windy day Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way When all at once a mighty herd of red eyed cows he saw A-plowing through the ragged sky and up the cloudy draw
Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky For he saw the Riders coming hard and he heard their mournful cry
Yippie yi Ohhhhh Yippie yi yaaaaay Ghost Riders in the sky
Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat He's riding hard to catch that herd, but he ain't caught 'em yet 'Cause they've got to ride forever on that range up in the sky On horses snorting fire As they ride on hear their cry
As the riders loped on by him he heard one call his name If you want to save your soul from Hell a-riding on our range Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride Trying to catch the Devil's herd, across these endless skies
Yippie yi Ohhhhh Yippie yi Yaaaaay
Ghost Riders in the sky Ghost Riders in the sky Ghost Riders in the sky
