CHRISTMAS/YULE - TRADITIONS - THREAD

fairymagic

As it is this special time of year, where the people around the world celebrate the coming of the new light, after the dark, cold winter, and we have so many members from all over the world, who celebrate that feast of light differently with different traditions in this holiday season, I thought,  it would be interesting to read, how our members celebrate it!

So, feel free to share with us, how you, in your family or your country, celebrate it!

What a beautiful idea grouphug

Well, for me personally its not about the presents or anything, its about the happiness that this time of year brings. Being with my family with a warm fire and loads of Christmas films on the TV to watch is what really makes me happy. I like my family a lot and I dont understand how people can say they hate their parents. I love them and I love spending time with them. I also like seeing the innocence of children shine through this time of year, I dont mean to sound creepy but seeing the smiles on everyones faces just means we can put aside our differences and just come together and celebrate and just feel good. The mood of this time of year is amazing and I love it so much, its infectious and brings us smiles. All this and more just makes me feel good inside.

That is a wonderful tradition! Thanks, Enzo, for sharing it with us! I think, lots of people think, christmas is only about presents! It`s wonderful, that you celebrate it in such a special way! I agree with you on that! Although, it`s wonderful, to give and recieve presents, it is more important, that the family shares the joy and love together! grouphug

We have different traditions, and in the most families it is celebrated differently! In the weeks before the feast, a kind of christmas markets are opened in the most cities! In the families, different kinds of cookies and/or Stollen (a kind of breadlike chistmascake) are made and presents are prepared or bought for the kids, familiy members and friends! The houses gets decorated and lots of children are preparing something, that they perform infront of their parents and family on christmas eve! A traditional meal, that varies from family to family, is served that evening, and every famiy has their own rituals for that night! Lots of families, especially with christian traditions, visit a service that evening!

Thank you for starting this thread, Lady R!

The traditions here are probably similar to most countries, I guess, Christmas lights on houses, Christmas music everywhere, decorating the tree, gifts, stockings, special foods, Santa in the malls, families together. There are some very nice farmer's markets with awesome baked goods and decorations, and special Christmas displays in the towns with tree lighting ceremonies, concerts, etc. And a parade!!! I love it all!

In my family we always make a gumdrop cake which everyone looks forward to. I think it is a tradition from the depression years when folks could not afford the expensive candied fruit and nuts to make fruit cakes and puddings, so they used coloured candies instead.  We also have a tradition for everyone to get new pajamas to wear Christmas Eve! Gotta look good for Santa! In my family gifts are given but we don't believe in going in debt for it. The children must have lots of fun packages to open Christmas morning though! That is the best part, children at Christmas.

For me personally, It is the atmosphere of joy and happiness that I love the most; I am not religious but I believe  that we are all one in the universe and for a few days it actually feels like it.

Thank you, Lady T., for sharing this wonderful traditions with us! That sounds so wonderful, and I can understand, why you are looking forward to that! I know, that lots of the people in America and Canada are like decorating their homes with lots of light and christmas decorations! Some people here in Germany likes that tradition and are decorating their homes in a similar way! And, the cake sounds yummy! I`m not that religious, either! I would rather call myself spiritual! So, I can only agree with you on that! We are, indeed, all one, and, yes, especiall, on those days, where people everywhere celebrate the light in their own way! :)

Hi All,
This was started a sad year when my husband, Blaine died this summer on June 24TH, 2013. But by now due to moving back with my family and my In-laws, it will help me celebrate this Christmas in a better way. Just getting back with Family means a lot to me. We lived on a farm in PA. and most of our time was there. So now that I'm back in Maryland again, I do have the time to spend with my family and getting back with old friends. I'm thankful for this Christmas for that and it will help heal my spirit with being with them again and spending good times together. Doing more with my grand kids helps too. I missed a lot of times with them before now. Everyone is happy that I'm back to my new home now and I love my new apartment too. Just getting settle here is a big time for me.

I will be spending Christmas with my sisters.  It is only the three of us now as none of us have any children and our parents are gone.  We have a tree and will be playing games most of the day.  Christmas Eve will be strange however since I have to work until 7pm.  But can party after that.

Happy Holidays Everyone.

Thank you, Nancy and Royaltraveler, for sharing, how you will spend this christmas!

Glad, to hear, that you will spend that time with your family, so that you don`t have to celebrate it alone, Nancy!flowerface

I think, even if only three persons celebrate together, it will be a wonderful christmas, Royaltraveler! Hope, you won`t have too much work that day, so that you can spend a joyful time that evening and have a fantastNIC party!chickendance
