It's just a thought but I think I'm noticing a trend in the movies that Nicolas Cage has been in recently. They all seem to be kind of the same. What is Next? Action thriller. Drive Angry? Action thriller. Seeking Justice? Action thriller. Stolen? Action thriller Tokarev? Action thriller. Once in awhile we'll get something that defies all genre like Bad Lieutenant and the upcoming Joe and Next at least tried to be different but for the most part he comes across as being kind of lazy. Now, I'm sure they'll be great films and I think Nicolas will be awesome in them and I am especially looking forward to Outcast but I want the variety that Nicolas used to have. I want to see him in a romance again and I really want to see him in a comedy again but I can't see that happening soon. I was talking about Seeking Justice the other day actually and someone said to me, 'all these recent films seem like action thrillers' and she doesn't really know a whole lot about movies. While I still believe that Nicolas Cage is one of the most versatile actors out there and he does well in action films, and I believe that Face/Off is one of the best action films ever made, he isn't the first person who comes to my mind and other peoples minds when it comes to action. Nicolas Cage strikes me and others as the actor who plays offbeat characters and plays them like no one else can and I want to see another Matchstick Men role, or hell, Leaving Las Vegas type role. I think I have my solace in Joe but I have to wait and see. Again, like I said, just a thought. I'm still going to watch them and am eagerly looking forward to them but I can't help but be a little saddened.

@Johnny Blaze I think its a bit wrong that Hollywood can't find 10 measly million dollars to fund it and yet they finance generic action movies for $100 million plus. May? Sounds good
@Lady T, What I mean by lazy is that I want the old Nicolas Cage back who used to jump from genre to genre, one year it was a comedy, another year it was a romance and even a romantic comedy or a horror comedy, Vampire's Kiss! Moonstruck, Red Rock West, City of Angels, Raising Arizona. All original, all wonderful. I don't think Nicolas Cage is a lazy actor and I would never call him that, but I feel that his choices of movies are uninspired as of late. Im looking at my collection as I'm writing this and I just go from the old 80s movies and saying: Romance, comedy, crime. And we get to late 2000s. Action, Action, Action, OMG BAD LIEUTENANT 10/10 BEST FILM EVER, Action, Action. It's been over 10 years since his last romance and even longer for comedy.
edit: and yes I like purple!

I would love to see him in a comedy again def!!! I thought we may have got it with Frank And Francis and it is a huge shame it hasnt happened as it sounded so fresh, original and funny. With the Musical angle aswell, it wouldve been interesting Genres to see him in.
Gotta wait till May to see Joe it looks like in the UK
I don't agree with you at all. The Croods, The Frozen Ground, Bad Lieutenant, all recent, and none a typical action movie. I would not exactly call Drive Angry a typical action thriller either. Come to think of it, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Season of the Witch, Trespass, none fit into a action mold to me. I would never call Nic lazy either. I assume you meant in his acting style? Do you mean you think he can walk through those parts, or he just chooses easy roles? What do you mean by that?
I agree with you I would like to see him in more comedies , he's good at it ! I don't really understand why he drop it because he was great ! But I have to say that I love his actions movie too , even if now he does a lot of them , it's always interesting to see because there is always a good plot and he's always brilliant in it , it fits him well. But I really want to want him in funny movies and in science fiction movie , it's been awhiles since he didn't make a science fiction movie , or independent film. But this year he did Joe and I can't wait to see it , a good , thoughtful movie. So maybe we just have to wait he will be back in another genres when he consider it's the right time for him , we have to be patient ^^
I think he said during 2006-2012 he was experimenting with a new kind of film, so I guess that makes sense but comedies please I think the only sci fi film he did was Astro Boy, right?
