Blevins, Cage, Toe to Toe in "Joe"

A little interview with one of Nic's co-stars in "Joe". See what he has to say about working with Nic!

Ronnie Gene Blevins has had one hell of a summer. He spent the last part of August at the Venice International Film Festival alongside co-stars Nicolas Cage, Tye Sheridan and director David Gordon Green. In what's being lauded as a comeback For Cage and a return to form for Green, "Joe" had its world premiere on August 30th to a sell out crowd. Blevins plays the villainous Willie Russell in the film.

While the story primarily centers around Cage and Sheridan's characters, Blevins offers evidence to Roger Eberts contention that "only a great villian can transform a good guy into triumph".

We caught up to Blevins last week and asked him about his experience with Cage. "He blew my expectations outta the water" Blevins said. "Nic has always been a personal hero. Pure artistry stems from ones willingness to express fully from whoever or whatever they are in that moment. He's an outrageous dude.. So he makes outrageous choices. Nic is fully expressed. He's punk rock. It's what I aspire to. He reeled it in a bit this go around. He was certainly more Lou Reed than Sid Vicious. Still punk rock though. He challenged me everyday",

Sounds good to us. When asked how he prepares for such a despicable role, Blevins told us he "tried to play it as light possible". "The evil is on the page. Gary wrote a great script. No reason to pile on. I knew.. I hoped if I could just create a noble inner agenda for myself.. Then I'd be in good shape. Plus it was a David Green film. David creates an environment where there seem to be very little rules. He created this great big world in which to play".

Lionsgate and Roadside attractions have acquired the US rights to "Joe". There is no release date yet.
