I know I've made a few of these lately and I'm sorry if I begin to annoy anyone but I usually only make these for a bit of fun and for some healthy discussion, however, this one is quite important. The film is, of course, outstanding, I don't think that's a question. No, what I'm here to discuss are some of the AUDIENCE reviews for this film. Some claim it as a masterpiece of the modern cinema but the other half seem to say the film makes it feel like America is number one and has a lot things to make America feel good about itself with lots of flag waving and patriotism. I'd like to state I'm not American and I'm not looking to attack anyone because that's not right. I'm just here to make an observation and pose a question. Even if this film DID do these things mentioned, does it matter/can you blame them? I, personally, didn't feel like the film was trying to do this but even if they did I can understand why they would do that. Everyone was feeling depressed and feeling like the world was coming to an end, a little positive reinforcement in the form of a movie would help people and could even help some others start to believe again! Nicolas' monologue at the end of the film speaks volumes, it perfectly captures the whole point of this. Y'know, opinions are opinions, but you'd think people would hold their tongues at a subject matter such as this one.
I've just seen it again and it brought a tear to my eye.
I think it is a great film, those opening shots where we see the start of the day, no one ever imagining the horror of whats to come, are really haunting.
Great performances, Cage "acts" pretty much just with his eyes in the whole film, and he is tremendous.
A moving and effecting film. Sorry havent time to write more :)
First of all, you will never annoy us with such great topics, Enzo! I watched it twice during the past two days, and, personally, I think, it was another masterpiece from Nic! The chemistry from the two main characters were so brilliant! And, the many patriotic flags, they show in it, where just to show, that the americans stick together, facing that horrible attack! I think, the movie was also made, to cope with that terror!

I recall that there was some controversy when Stone made the movie, some people said it was too soon, but I think it answered a real need people had, to mourn collectively and to share one of many amazing true stories of hope and bravery. Seems like there are always stories that come out of horrible events that can inspire, the way Nic portrayed one man who didn't give up was one for me. I didn't watch it this year, I was working, but I am planning to watch it soon, I believe it is one of Nic's most moving performances.
Yes, indeed! I agree with you, Royaltraveler! How he portrayed John McLoughlin, one of many heros of this horrible day, was, indeed, moving and healing, in a way! With movies like that, people are able to look at those horrible events and see, that there is still light and hope, even on those dark days!
