It's not everyday you see Nicolas Cage on set, in character and in downtown Mobile. He is part of the cast and crew of the upcoming movie called Tokarev - a name, even the executive producers are still pondering.

"The name may change. It's about a Russian gun that integral to the plot. It's a mafia revenge tale. So we got the Irish mob, the Russian mob, and various other factions converging on him and his daughter," said Sean Keller, co-executive producer,screenwriter.

I came across a few Nicolas Cage fans passing through the area.

"Gone in 60 seconds, to 8mm, to Sorcerer's Apprentice, I've seen National treasure, all of them," said Ben Worcester.

All hoping to get a glimpse of the Hollywood actor.

"I want to take at least one picture, just one. Or at least see him from afar or something like that," said April Hollins.

Our cameras were only allowed so close. along with cage, we caught another actor with a bloody fist running in and out of the old Gayfer's building. And there are several reasons why they chose Mobile. From the architecture, to the tax incentives, to Mobile having a small town feel.

"Which means controlling traffic on streets is easier. Getting permits to do things, a little easier. I have a feeling you are going to be seeing a lot of film production coming to Mobile in the coming years," said Keller.

The movie brought jobs to many local actors. Like Ron Goleman. He initially got the part of a Russian driver, but after being called back for a second audition, he landed a bigger role.

"I read it and found out that this detective is the partner, he is the younger partner to Danny Glover. That would be like standing next to a golden statue as far as actors are concerned. The man is a legend. For local movies here, this would be the biggest to date and I hope it just doesn't stop," said Goleman.

I'm told they have completed their cast, but there maybe re-writes to the script, so another role or two may open up. If you are interested you are asked to contact the Alabama Film Commission for more information.
