This is very exciting news, Flo, good job reporting! I am excited because it seems it is not just a rumour, since it has been officially announced, and gives us something to look forward to. Also I think it sounds like a wonderful dramatic role for Nic, and I am really hyped for that.

More of the same and a bit more info at these links.

Here is a blurb from the link above about the book. I can really envision Nic in this role, can't you?! And I am anticipating a cool southern drawl as only Nic can do. purr

From the publisher's website: "Nearing fifty, Joe Ransom won't slow down, not in his pickup, not with a gun-and certainly not with women. But all the fast living in Mississippi won't fill the hunger Joe can't name. At fifteen, Gary Jones is already slipping through the cracks. Part of a hopeless, homeless wandering family, he's desperate for a way out. He finds it in Joe. Together they follow a twisting map to redemption-or ruin."

Cage recently completed work on the serial killer drama, The Frozen Ground, and is about to start work on Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Walls.

The way this news is being circulated, it seems more of a likely, solid rumour. Sounds like a geat premise for a Nic role to me, has anyone read the book? If the project goes ahead I may read it after...prefer the element of surprise in a film. Hope it happens, feels like the right time for a gritty Indie film for Nic. action

Thanks for posting flo! flowerface

me again...this needs quoting:

"Gordon Green said: "When Larry Brown wrote the novel Joe, he instantly created an iconic character of contemporary Southern literature.

"It is with great excitement that I've been able to work with Nicolas Cage to design an absolute and unexpected performance piece that is woven from the darkness, beauty, humour and environment of this material.""

I just came across this at http://nicolas-cage.biz/ ( thanks tess! ) and wanted to share here. In the article is the news that Nic is now filming 'Joe' in Texas. I had kind of forgotten about this movie what with all the other movies rumours being talked about, but this one sounds great and I am excited to see that it is actually happening!! Also note at the end of the article that Nic will be participating in a charitable event in December, we will have to keep an eye out for news of that.

Cage impressed with impressionist

liveshow.png

Nicolas Cage is sporting a new look these days - a salt-and-pepper beard for his role as an ex-con.

But the beard didn't fool Golden Nugget impressionist Gordie Brown, who went into the crowd Saturday and did his impersonation of Cage up close and personal.

"Talk about pressure," Brown said.

But it turned into a classic worthy of Brown's best-of collection.

Brown had the audience - and Cage - howling as he switched between Cage's voice and the actor's pals, Gary Shandling and John Travolta during an imaginary golf game.

Brown also came up with a scenario in which he played Cage as a Hollywood director.

"I made it all up," said Brown, who said it was only the third time in 20 years that a celebrity he impersonates attended his show.

The others were country star Randy Travis and Shandling, "who came back the next three nights," Brown said.

Cage, who moved to Las Vegas earlier this year, "truly couldn't have been a better sport," Brown said.

Cage told him, "you do me better than I do me."

Afterward, Cage and his wife, Alice, joined Brown in his dressing room with their mutual friends LJ Harness and his fiancée, Terri.

Harness said Cage loves live entertainment and has embraced the Las Vegas community after moving here from Los Angeles "to have a more normal family life."

Cage, who won an Oscar in 1995 for playing a suicidal alcoholic in "Leaving Las Vegas," has been in Texas shooting "Joe," based on the 2003 novel by Larry Brown.

His ex-con character becomes a role model to a 15-year-old boy caught in a homeless family situation.

Harness, creator of the live entertainment website TheVegasUnderground.com, said Cage has agreed to participate in the Dec. 1 U.S. Marines Toys for Tots drive at the LVH, along with "American Idol" Taylor Hicks, Chris Phillips of Zowie Bowie and Brown.

And here is a little article about the actor playing the boy in the movie.

The Tree Of Life's Tye Sheridan To Co-Star With Nicolas Cage In Joe

The Tree Of Life's Tye Sheridan To Co-Star With Nicolas Cage In Joe image

Director David Gordon Green needed a young male actor to star opposite Nicolas Cage in the upcoming drama Joe and it would seem that he has found one. Tye Sheridan, who made his acting debut in Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life, has signed on to the drama, which is being produced by Worldview Entertainment.

Variety says that the story follows a man (Cage) who somehow manages to become the role model or a 15 year old boy (Sheridan) who is “the oldest child of a homeless family ruled by a worthless father.” The man then decides to help the kid and together they work to find “a path to redemption.” The movie is based on the book by Larry Brown, which was adapted by Gary Hawkins. The project was first announced at the Toronto International Film Festival last month and production is scheduled to begin starting October 31st in Austin.

Sheridan has already completed his second film, meaning Joe will be his third. The young actor also appeared in Jeff Nichols’ Mud, which follows two young boys as they help an escaped fugitive reunite with his soulmate. The film, which starred Matthew McConaughey, Michael Shannon, Sarah Paulson, Reese Witherspoon and Sam Shepard, made its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. While Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have both signed on to distribute the film in the United States, Mud doesn’t currently have a release date – though it’s expected to be in theaters some time in 2013.

All I can say concerning this movie is YES.  It is about time.  And as far as the other movies go, he can only shoot one at a time, and he is the only one who knows which one is next.  I am just glad to see him back to work.

Here is some financial news about 'Joe'.Sounds very positive.

Buyers flow to WestEnd’s Joe

EXCLUSIVE: Deals on new Nicolas Cage drama include a mid-six figure deal with Wild Side for France.

WestEnd has seen good traffic on David Gordon Green’s upcoming drama Joe, starring Nicolas Cage.

Wild Side has taken French rights in a mid-six figure deal, while the UK-based outfit has also closed deals in Japan (CCC), Latin America (Vinny) and Middle East (ECS).

Cage stars as an ex-con who becomes an unlikely role model to a teenager from a troubled home. CAA handles US rights.

Manuel Chiche, Wild Side MD said: “We are simply delighted to work with David Gordon Green and his producer Lisa Muskat again after working on Undertow. Noone could better adapt Larry Brown’s novel than David. And Nic Cage will be terrific in the lead role”.
