I find it fascinating to compare the box office success of Nics' films and critical success.
What particularly stands out to me here is that 4 of the top 10 most successful Nic movies at the box office are fantasy supernatural films! some of which have not always been critically popular!
Odd how people on some of the sites go on about the box office results to criticize Nic, as if that had anything to do with his acting ability. A lot of Nic's most critically acclaimed roles in movies did not do so well in the box office, either, so to me it seems one has nothing to do with the other. I also find it odd that a showing like GR just had this weekend is considered bad.
From some things I have read lately the opening box office results are not what makes profit like it used to be, world-wide audiences and dvd sales makes the studios their money.
And what did David Letterman say on the most recent show when he introduced Nic; that his movies have made over 4.5 billion dollars!!! That is amazing!!!
I haven't looked at this kind of thing for some time, so was surprised by 'Knowing', I didn't realize it was such a big hit. I loved it, and I am glad to see that many others did too. That list is such a wonderful group of supremely entertaining movies, isn't it? I am always happy to sit down and watch any one of them. I bet no other contempory actor has a list of huge hits like that! And that is just a drop in his bucket, too!
Yes, we have discussed before how there is no rhyme or reason to it, some of Nic's most critically acclaimed movies like The Bad Lieutenant do less well at the box office and as this shows, even when the crtiics are all over a film, it can do exremely well at the box office.
This says something to me about public opinion over critics, not just the numbers but the type of film! but even that is a generalisatioin and for me neither box office or critic is the measure of the 'success'of a film there are too many other factors to do with marketing as well.
I do like seeing the world box office figures though, over what they call 'domestic figures ', because that to me seems like a US centric approach when it fact films are released (eventually! ) all over the world and Nicolas Cage in particular is an internationally admired actor with fans in all corners of the globe!
Just to keep things a bit focussed, we have a topic on Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance at the box office here

Thanks Roxy! I agree with some, but I think you are totaly right Flo, these movies had to be in there for sure! I think, the critics often are wrong so I don't realy pay to much atention to them, sometimes they are right but often not.
