but if julie didnt break up with Randy, we would never have had a those epic and funny scenes where he tries to win her back! with the 3D glasses and the funny chef hat and accent! when he spat the chewing gum in tommy's lap that was an accident apparently!

Nor would we have had  the break up scene..powerful acting from both... where Nic improvised the last line

@Lula: Indeed! At first: "I love you. That`s all I wanted to say." And, then, the break up, when Julie herself breaks her heart, to give up her love, although, she really doesn`t want to, but because of her friends persuaded her, to do it!

because of budget restrictions..All the scenes in this movie were shot in 1 or 2  takes... 3 at the most, which makes the creation of this film even more remarkable! it is a synthesis of a greatness!!!

Then, the wonderful whistle-scene, when Fred, tries to encourage his friend, to fight for her. :) And, the encounters with Tommy!

Randy: "No, but your face is."

Tommy: "It appears as though you forgot our french fries and a coke, fishhead."
Randy: "Oh well, Peter Piper picked a pepper, I guess, I did!"

 the whistle scene is cute as !!!! oh how gorgeous is tormented Randy! except when he is having drunken sex with his ex in the club toliets! "my place or yours" lol.. well..gorgeous in a totally different kind of way..that scene is HOTTTTT..seems almost out of place again...but it was the final bligatory boob shot to make this an exploitation teen flick!

Indeed, Lula! But, that was out of his dispair over the breaking up! I think, it fitted the whole situation, Randy was in. Then, Fred, wanted to get him out of that sad situation, by taking him to the prom, so that he could have his revenge on Tommy for the party.

this is where Valley Girl differs from Romeo and Juliet..the ending! it ends up being a comedy not a tragedy  ( in the shakespearian sense, where a tragedy ends with everyone dying, a comedy with everyone getting married, or being in love! )

and our rebel hero gets the girl!

For me Valley Girl is an exquisite, fun and beautiful love story and celebration of the eighties at a sustained level of awesomeness and yet is a timeless .... Everyone in it's creation and the whole cast can be proud of this movie as it stands the test of time to remain an enduring classic! the standout performance is a young Nic Cage as Randy, in his first leading male role bringing that unique and transcencent quality of his adding his own touches and unique style, taking the film to a different level. this film will sit very fondly in my collection for evermore!

ten out of ten stars from me!
