That is quite an honour, and he certainly deserves it, what a prolific and interesting history he has had, and continues to have.

His new movie Queen of the Desert sounds very interesting, about Gertrude Bell, what a fscinating history she had! And I see that Naomi Watts might star in it, I will be looking for it, I love her, she is one of my favourite actors.

Now if only that movie about King Ludwig  would happen!

It’s funny you should ask this question because I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago about working with him again. I would love to play King Ludwig – who is famous for his Bavarian castles – in a movie directed by Werner. I said that we should try to find a way to do it because it’s a great story. I hope it works out.

Yes, indeed, Lady T., he deserves it for his great directing!

That would truly be great, if that movie would happen, directed by Herzog. King Ludwig is really famous here in Germany, especially in Bavaria. He is said, that he was insane near the end of his death. And, it would truly be an NICtastic performance, if Nic would play that part!starry

Oh! I so agree about the King Ludwig movie Lady Trueheart! (where else did we talk about that? or am I having deja vu? i remember taking about the bavarian castles and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!!?!..or maybe it was all just a dream...... stars)

Lady Arwen, it is NICe you congratulated Werner herzog in your own tongue, as a german filmmaker, he was apparently very active in the 1960's and supported (although was not a signatory on)  the 'Oberhausener Manifesto' which (I think) claimed, "The old cinema is dead, we believe in the new" 

My german is fairly poor but this is an interesting read! (if you feel given to make us a rough translation that would be great Lady Arwen! but no pressure, we can always google translate it! flowerface)

Der Zusammenbruch des konventionellen deutschen Films entzieht einer von uns abgelehnten Geisteshaltung endlich den wirtschaftlichen Boden. Dadurch hat der neue Film die Chance, lebendig zu werden. Deutsche Kurzfilme von jungen Autoren, Regisseuren und Produzenten erhielten in den letzten Jahren eine große Zahl von Preisen auf internationalen Festivals und fanden Anerkennung der internationalen Kritik. Well, I can try. Here is my rough translation of the article:

"The breakdown of conventional german movies eventually makes an end towards the negativ approach of it. Finally, the new film can come to life. German shorts from young writers, directors and producers won several awards on international filmfestivals and recognition from international critics through the last few years. This shows, that the future of german filmmaking lies in the hands of those, who proved themselfs, of beeing able to speak the new language of film. As in other, foreign countries, Germany became a playground for shorts and movies. We claim the making of development of german film. This new movies needs freedom. Freedom of the common conventions, freedom from the influence of commercial partners, freedom from paternalism of international interest groups. We have an exact vision from the production of the new german film. Together we are prepared to take this economic risk. The old movie is dead. We belief in the new film!"

A sublime filmmaker, who conjures the kind of necessary images that seem to have been almost wholly lost admist consumerism and advertising. Also, he can produce shots that look so simple and yet reach monumentous frequencies that chime with one's inner core! I'm gettin' vague and hand-wavey because his films exceed language - really, he is an artist of few peers and we are considerable blessed to be living in a period when he is working!

Congrats to Werner!  I must admit though, I never really heard of Werner prior to Nic filming with him, as I understand, most of Werner's movies are documentaries and tv specials.

But what a career, directing since the early 60's.  Now that's a lifetime achievement - indeed!
