TRESPASS at TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Having a slight case of deja-vu after Trespass was meant to appear at Ischia but didn't...but according to this article, Trespass will be showing as TIFF this year!

starry

TORONTO - A biopic about Winnie Mandela starring Jennifer Hudson and Terrence Howard, a Joel Schumacher-directed film about home invasion featuring Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman, and an art exhibit from actor James Franco and Oscar-nominated director Gus Van Sant are among the new additions to the lineup of the Toronto International Film Festival.

There are several splashy thrillers among the latest spate of films announced for the festival, which runs from Sept. 8 to 18.

David Hare's "Page Eight" casts Bill Nighy as a long-serving M15 officer whose operation is threatened when his boss and best friend dies.

Schumacher's "Trespass" showcases Cage as a family man facing the possibility of losing everything in a vicious invasion.

And Gary McKendry's "Killer Elite" casts Jason Statham, Robert De Niro and Clive Owen in an action-packed account of an ex-special ops agent tasked with taking down three dangerous assassins.

The Toronto fest will also feature the world premiere of "Winnie," Darrell J. Roodt's sensitive portrayal of the South African politician, who is Nelson Mandela's wife.

The festival also announced that the Franco and Van Sant installation — a meditation on Van Sant's 1991 film "My Own Private Idaho" — will be displayed publicly for free for the duration of the festival as part of its future projections program.

The Toronto International Film Festival will open with the Davis Guggenheim-directed U2 documentary "From the Sky Down."

Gosh, I must have been dreaming, because I thought TIFF already happened.

This is great news, wish I could make it there to see it, but I doubt it. Wonder if Nic will be there? When does he start working on the Alaskan one?

It's great news!

The movie has a page on the official website of the TIFF:

Thanks Cristina! Sounds seriously dark, that one.

Lula, was there ever anything at all about Trespass at Ischia? So odd, that.

According to this blurb Nic and Nicole are expcted to be there!!! And it says world premiere!

Joel Schumacher’s mysterious, fan-tested-TIFF-approved Trespass will indeed have its world premiere in Toronto. Co-stars Nicole Kidman and Nicolas Cage are expected to walk the red carpet in support.

Thanks for the additionals Lady Trueheart and Cristina! starry 'mysterious' and 'fan-tested' are the perfect words to describe the process so far!

This is excellent news, only today I was pondering how there seems to be an awful lot of moaning from people about the way Trespass is being handled...and something began to niggle at me..  then Nic and Werner Herzog's The Bad Lieutenant popped into my mind...that had very little publicity and promo, had a limited release, and yet it is a hghly critically acclaimed! and guess what, that film was unveiled at TIFF too!! film action

I am so pleased it is not getting the shaft, as it originally seemed. Very similar to BL, isn't it Lula. I think somewhere in the interviews about BL I read that there was a legal issue that caused things to stall as they did, and prevented a good distribution.

Here is hoping for good things from TIFF!

I vaguely recall that too, Lady Trueheart.  There is definitely something to be said about a contained publicity, and I feel I have made a fair comparison to The Bad Lieutenant in that respect but obviously it is just guesswork on my part, I know nothing!

I notice that Trespass is also produced by Nic's company Saturn Films as well!?! reel

I am glad Trespass is getting a showing at TIFF as well since it will play better in the eyes of the public and critics alike. It helped Nic with BL:POCNO and could help Trespass get critical acclaim. I would like to see a double feature of Trespass and Seeking Justice but that is just me. Can't wait for the trailer and more info. Late, CLC.

Excellent observation Lula!!  Though I think the slight difference between BL:POCNO and Trespass is, BL actually received press, lots of trailers via the internet, tv and billboard marketing.  At least, that's what we saw here in the United States.  Also, BL did at least open in the United States, although limited release, we at least had the opportunity to see it in theaters.

With Trespass, they aren't even talking about releasing it at all in theaters, in the United States -  but it going straight to VOD, that's what I think has become a bit daunting and unbelievable.

The excellent move with Trespass showing at TIFF is, it gives the producers an outstanding opportunity to shop for... well... more funding for the movie - i.e. marketing, distribution, etc. This move will hopefully open possibilities for bigger marketing campaigns and wider releases!

BTW, it feels so good to talk about this amongst people who I know share the same passion as I !!!  I'm loving this!

I agree Gina! being among Nic fans who are passionate about his work is exhilirating and inspiring..and just plain NICe!! It feels like Home to me. starry

True, The Bad Lieutenant did have some publicity, but it really was very limited, compared to something like The Sorcerer's Apprentice which was a literal non-stop Disney delirious promo fest!   It just went through my mind as a comparison flowerface

Are we utterly sure TRESPASS is not showing in theatres anywhere? I am still holding out hope for that, and I think we will also be seeing a trailer soon!action

Lady T, I just realised I did not answer your earlier question, sorry! I am pretty sure that Trespass did not see the light of day at Ischia film fest, ( which we talked about here ) despite the numerous reports that the world premiere was going to happen there in July, including from Variety, who have also just announced Trespass at TIFF! hence the deja vu i am having!

You're right Lula!

My comparison was with the independent movies. BL:POCNC vs Trespass.  They are both independent movies which means, no major studio backed the films and the financing was private.

Sorcerer's Apprentice is in a totally different ball park as it was not privately funded but financed and distributed through Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Disney which is beyond major.

I was sooooo hoping that with the release of the Trespass trailer, they would have announced that it'll be hitting theaters, at least in the United States, but alas, no such luck.  As a fan though, I'm glad to see it in the theater or VOD on October 14th non the less.

We last saw Nicolas Cage do TIFF during 2009 where he garnered rave reviews for his eccentric performance in “The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans.” Cage should return in 2011, as director Joel Schumacher’s “Trespass” gets a Gala screening slot.
