After much speculation amongst our members here, we can now confirm that the alternate ending on the upcoming SEASON OF THE WITCH blu-ray IS available on the DVD..........
and apparently the original ending for the movie!
Apparently the alternate ending "keeps the evil personal"
OOOh the suspense!!
How will it effect the relationships between the characters? What about the supernatural elements? Is she a witch or isn't she? Will Behmen meet the same fate?!!
My apologies to our members and readers, contrary to the review in the article (as it turns out highly misleading) previously posted, the DVD does not have the alternate ending that is on the Blu-Ray.
I am beyond disappointed with the film compay that they would prevent fans who do not have and are unable to afford a blu ray player from enjoying this content.
This is a non profit site and through our enthusiasm and dedication as Nicolas Cage fans,we heavily promote Nics' films both as they come to the big sceen and to dvd and blu-ray, both here and on twitter. I do this unconditionally and obviously without expectation. But, I am feeling a little upset that i am personally unable to see this after buying my dvd expecting to atleast have that same enjoyment and accissibility!
Enough said and again my apologies for becoming so enthused about a miseading article.
It is very disappointing, Lula, and I agree that it is unfair also. I do hope that the alternate ending will be available on-line soon for all Nic fans to enjoy.
Me too Lady Trueheart! It is not that i expectthereto alwaybe an alternate ending on a dvd, it is that it is available on teh bul-ray and that in my mind seems to discrimnate against people who cannot afflord a blu ray player (or blu-rays! I feel the content should be the same. I guess it also sadly reminds me of the cynical materialistc world we live in, becasue it is obviously done so poeple buy the more expensive version. But enough of that, i am more for enjoying what is here and will talk about that in another thread!
I am gutted the alternative ending isnt on the dvd!!Has anyone seen it yet? I am sorry to say that I really didnt like the ending used, made it incredibly silly for me and the overuse of CGI didsnt work for me personally with the feel of the rest of the film.
I am too!!!!!!!!! major sulk I had when i discoverd it, especially as we had been led to believe it was on the dvd by thie article I posted at teh beginning of this thread, which was a review of the dvd
I believe our lucky Lady Trueheart may have seen the alternate ending!......
Lol, I felt that way in From Dusk Til Dawn when it went from completely naturalist to surprise fantasy! But I loved teh ending of Season Of The Wirch, the supernatural was present from the opening scence.,,and now that I have seen the movie a few more times
Spoiler
I can see how the opening scene ties in with the end scene,
silly me didn't fully grasp that the first time around!
The alternate ending is definitely not on my region 2 DVD!
You mean it is available on the region 1 DVD????!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow! I am not sure if that makes matters better or worse!!! It could very well explain the article though.
So... I can access this on region 1 dvd (i have a multi-region drive) but end up buying two dvds!
why oh why, Millenium, would this content be available on the DVD in one area of the world and not another??!!!
By the way........................For those who do not have the alternate ending and missed ths topict, here is a sneak peak in this clip!
LOL! I can see where you are going with the Exorcist comparison Johnny! That must have been awesome fun for Claire Foy to play, right?!! In fact I love her character in this film. talk about a character arch!!!
I'VE FINALLY SEEN THE 'SEASON OF THE WITCH' ALTERNATE ENDING!!!!!!
I like like like it!!
There were quite a few differences, the main one being no demon at the end just 'the girl' possessed by the demon, which i really liked, it gave the film that exorcism element more explicitly, the zomblie monks were portrayed more graphically which is cool, the demise of the characters is slightly different and it me the whole things seemed to flow more esaily... and it felt to me to have a bit more 'horror' to it!
So it looks like this was the original endig to the movie, the demon and CGI as added afterwards as well as the battle scenes at the beginning!
I am going to stick my neck out here and say, I prefer the original one, much as the demon rocks, and is very scary, and much as I love the final version of the movie, I personally think the flavour of the original before these bits were added makes this film slighly more gritty horror edgy than it ended up being!
WOW! It`s so awesome, that you saw it, Lula! Where did you see it? Do you have a special edition, where they show the alternate ending? Thanks for telling us about it!

What Tess says about her DVD and what Lula describes is the same alternate ending I have on my DVD too. It's region 1 for USA versions. I don't think my DVD is any special editions version just DVD only. Yes, I too love the original ending too. But I do like the devil one with the CGI thing. I can see how many like the original version better then what they show in the movies and was on the DVD. I like what Lula says about the girl being possessed by the devil and just shows her attacking Nick in the end. Instead of showing the CGI version of the devil.
Hi Lady Arwen, Nancy is right, there is no specal edition that includes this extra, it is just available on the REGION 1 DVD, but not for us in Europe on the REGION 2 dvd, this is why i also bought the import, luckily i have a multi region player! hope that helps!
Do any of our members from other parts of the world / different dvd regions have the alternate ending on their version of the dvd? would be awesome to know!!
The aternate ending is also available on the Blu-Ray!
Lay Trueheart, for me throughout the movie it is that connection between Behmen and 'the girl' / witch /demon that I find most moving, and that he was proven righta bout her in a way at the end, she was possessed but she herself was not the 'evil' that the church suspectd her to be...i think both endings were moving, but the version we end up wth is possibly moreso for me, simply because of that look that passes between them at the end, and her vulnerability as she lay naked on the floor...it adds to the image of her purity, in contrast to the darkness.
