We don't celebrate it here, sadly. I remember reading in older stories that people made little baskets of flowers to leave on neighbour's doorsteps. I thought that sounded like a nice custom.

Happy May Day to you too, Lula, and all!!!

Here is a picture of Nova Scotia's Provincial flower, the Mayflower, it is endangered now, so unlawful to pick it, but when I was a child we would go into the woods and picks bouquets of them for our mothers. It is the sweetest smelling flower, similar to the lilac.

Exquisite colour too Lady Trueheart, nature gifts us with so much beauty. flowerface perhaps you just celebrate May in your own way then?! flowerpot.gif

You could not say that Mayday is celebrated by all in Britain, or that it is celebrated in the same way by all, it mean different things to different people!

For me I am more aligned with the celebration of Beltane, a celtic festival and  i am much more likely to celebrate with creativity, communing with nature and a bonfire, than something like morris dancing, but i do love the symbolism of the may pole, well my interpretation of the symbolism which is all the separate stands coming together as one!

Whatever wuld we do without wikipedia?here is an articel on MAyday across teh world! flowerface2
