I started to talk about this somewhere else on the forum but thought it would make a cool discussiion topic!
I can't think of any other actor who has done as many roles as Nic, that have a dual element within one film!
I consider the following movies to fit into this category...going from the most to least obvious:
Adaptation ~ Nic plays twin brothers Charlie and Donald Kaufman with very different personalities
Face/Off ~ Castor Troy and Sean Archer
Ghost Rider ~ Johnny Blaze and Ghost Rider (amd we are given to believe this will be even more emphasized in Spirit Of Vengeance)
City Of Angels ~ Seth as an angel and as a human
Vampire's Kiss ~ at a stretch...
Family Man ~ another stretch but nevertheless valid I think..playboy Jack Campbell and Family Man Jack Campbell
Oh and I just thought of one more:
Kick Ass ~ Damon Macready and Big Daddy!
why am I bringing this up?
Because I think it demonstrates most particularly the range of an extraordianry actor and takes character development and character arc within one film to another level.
What do you think? are there any mre dual roles you can think of? would love to hear your thoughts....
I suppose Peggy Sue might qualify as he plays a man at different ages in his life? Also Captain Corelli, though that last scene is brief.
Face/Off stands out for me, it is really something to see him switch personalities, he is phenominal in that role.
Family Man also, he is subtle yet you can actuallly believe in the character change, I liked both Jacks, actually!
I am getting more and more excited to see GR 2 these days, given the info we have been fed lately. Also, Nic saying it might be his best work really intriques me. I think it will be amazing to see him embody the Johhnny Blaze role and the demon, can't wait!
And, just a bit off topic, but since he has been discussed in another thread, I believe John Travola has that amazing ability too, he and Nic together in Face/off, genius!
Oh yes, good thinking Meg, I can really see where you are going with Peggy Sue Got Married, especailly as it was more like a dreamscape time travel thing than just a progression through time as in CCM.
I don't think I have ever put it into words before but have often thought how impressive a transformation that was actually from the young quiffed awkward cool Pookey voiced Charlie to the greying slightly stooping wiser greyer Charlie!
I guess in some ways we are tslking about character progression and not strictly two different roles, so it is not that dualistic i just find it interesting to look at it from that angle.
What i also find most fascinating about Nic as an actor is how he plays in the grey areas actually, so maybe it is that capacity to bring the levels within ONE character that rocks the most.... lol, i am just trying to think of redeeming features of Castor Troy to bring him out of the purely dark side...well he has very stylish clothes...
