Nicolas Cage's Next Directorial Outing 'the man who could fly'?
You would have to be living on Mars to not have heard of Nicolas Cage, the unique and talented megastar actor, with a successful film career spanning over 3 decades. But his first and thus far only outing as a director is less well known. This year's Sedona International Film Festival saw Mr Cage showcase his 2002 directorial debut 'Sonny', a beautifully crafted, dark, intimate, tender and tragic, undersung film focussing on the lives of a family of outlaws in New Orleans, with a cast of supreme talent in James Franco, Mena Suvari, Brenda Blethyn and Harry Dean Stanton.
In an indepth Q & A following the showing, Nicolas Cage responded to questions from a warm and appreciative audience, giving a very open and interesting insight into the film, his experiences as a director and this exciting glimpse into his vision for his next directorial outing:
"Well if I do direct again, there is a movie about one of the very first spiritualists of the victorian era, his name was D.D Home and he was known as 'the man who could fly' and I have the script that I commissioned. It's a pretty good script, I thought that would be something I would like to direct."
We think this would be an awesome film to get made with Nicolas Cage at the helm. Have you seen Sonny and would you like to see another Cage directed movie? Tell us below!
I think it would be such a fascinating movie Lady true i came across him when i was researching Swedenborg, my Grandmother was a powerful psychic, i only found out when she passed her affiliation with the teachings of Swedenborg, himself a fascinating man.
Home was said to have levitated several times in front of an audience of scientists and critics, one time out of one window and in another! much of his sittings were done in full light, many who criticised him came to believe he was genuine. Houdini was mean to challenge hima nd expose him as a fraud but he never turned up to the aranged meeeting and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote about him and his differant psyvhic abilities, so they could appear in the movie! and a victorian piece...awesome!
I would love to see Nic play Harry Houdini, but in your pic of him here Lady True, i see a touch of Colin Firth!
I think D.D Home could be played by James Franco, there ia a striking similarity! (and Nic already directed Franco in Sonny so the working relationship is already there!)
Jury is out on Conan Doyle..I always expect him to look differently than he does in pictures...for some resaon Alan Rickman popped into my head...in this pic he looks like a straight version of the comedian Rick Gervais!
Nic & Depp, of course. Throw in Robert Downey Jr as Arthur Conan-Doyle, and Helena Bonham Carter as Homes' love interest! She's always a good match for Johnny!
Helena Bonham Carter has a wonderful sensibility about her, perfect for period films and something quite quirky, but her and Johnny together and it may begin to feel like a Tim Burton film, rather than a Nicolas Cage film!
After Sonny, i wonder if Nic would begin to hone a directorial 'style', or if he would be as ecclectic a directo,r in genre and tone, as he is an actor!?!
