reelfilm reel

I have always had an itch to travel, which I hope to scratch some day!
In the meantime some movies can transport me away in my imagination to other places and cultural experiences. I really enjoy seeing the settings of movies and like to look at pictures of the area and read about it too.
I find it enhances my enjoyment of the movies.

And some of Nic's movies are filmed in some really wonderful locations, for instance, think about those great images we've been seeing from Romania and Turkey lately for Ghost Rider 2.
I think it might be an interesting thread to discuss some of those places in relation to the movie.

If any of you have a favourite movie setting please feel free to join in!

What a wonderful idea for a thread Lady True!!starry
I agree with you about the Ghost Rider Spirit Of vengeance locations, the beauty of them has amplified my excitement for the movie even more ( if that's possible) I would love to visit the area of Turkey where Nic was filming, the fairy chimneys and the caves, and it is also the place where Rumi whirled and wrote! stars
Equally so, I would love to visit Romania....the land and the architecture...especially the castles, both Dracula's and Corvin Castle where they filmed fairy

Season of The Witch landscape is stunning too...you have to want to see those stunning views and misty woods...

Parts of NEXT were filmed in an area of breathtaking natural beauty, but it is ot really an area that tourists would be able to visitas Nic famously had to negotiate with an Indian Tribe to allow filming for part of the movie on their sacred land, which is a very remote section at the bottom of the Grand Canyon that you can only get to by helicopter and is only inhabited by the Havasupai people. stars

'Next'

I have read a few books about Arizona over the years and also have always been impressed by the scenery of the older westerns, some of which were filmed there, so it has been on my bucket list for awhile. And when I saw 'Next', one of my favourite Nic movies, I was enthralled by the beauty of the location shots. Reading about Nic's upcoming appearance at the
Sedona Film Festival brought it to my mind again.
I came across this picture the other day and immediately was transported to that scene in the movie where Cris and Liz visit the Havasupai Reservation, I thought that looked like such a magical place when I watched the movie.

Nestled 3,000 feet [900 meters] deep into Havasu Canyon lies the land of the Havasupai. The native Indians are named for the area, the people of the Blue Green. The area is known around the world for its blue waters and spectacular waterfalls. Havasu Creek, a year-round stream with incredible aquamarine water, flows by the village and descends another 1,400 feet [425 meters], passing over five waterfalls. Navajo Falls is the most secluded and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

There are more gorgeous pictures of the area here.

Here is a page about the area they were filming at, apparently it suffered quite a lot of damage from flooding in 2008, but it sounds like it is open to visitors now.

And here is Nic talking about the area and the special meaning it has to him.

Here is a video of the area.

This clip from the movie has a few shots from the scene, I wish I could find a complete video clip of that part, it is lovely.

NEXT really has to be the most special of all Nic film locations because he brought a very remote and sacred place to us throught the screen, the unique and special energy there really comes through and was not lost on me! lotus

'Captain Corelli's Mandolin'

"The Greek islands are some of the most heavenly spots on earth......there's so
much beauty and tranquility to the islands." Nicolas Cage

When I saw this movie I was transported by the beauty of the setting. It just captivated me scene after scene. I remember literally gasping at some of the shots, they were so magnificent. So naturally it is on my bucket list of places to see. Who wouldn't want to climb those hills and gaze down at that turquoise water. The island of Kefalonia, largest of the Ionian Islands in Greece, is where the filming of 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin' took place. It is the actual location where the historical World War Two events happened that the book was based on, and it is magical and breathtakingly beautiful.
I don't think any other location could have done it justice.

Here are two tourist sites with some interesting information about the island and film.

Here is a short video of the island.

And here is the trailer, which really showcases the beauty of the island.

And yet another nice tourist website.

That article appears to me more as a review than a location, Lula, but I like, how that guy writes about "The Rock"! He has a funny way of reviewing! Thanks for posting it!flowerface
