Rebekah Kennedy Interview Exclusive: SEASON OF THE WITCH
by Lula Argante 7 January 2011
Rebekah Kennedy has been acting since she was twelve years old, performing professionally by the age of 17. With an impressive number of musicals and theatre productions under her belt, 2010 saw her first appearance on the silver screen, landing parts in Blood is Blood, SAG thriller House Hunting, recently wrapped Book Of Babylon and upcoming Wuss.
She is also currently appearing as Chrissy Holden in newly released teen horror webseries Throwing Stones, which is garnering a huge amount of positive buzz on the internet right now.
But it is her upcoming role as a peasant Turk girl in supernatural thriller Season Of The Witch that we are extra excited about, because not only is she starring alongside a starstudded cast including Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Claire Foy and Christopher Lee, but her character plays an essential part in the shaping of the whole plot for this film.
Cagealot Castle had the honour of doing an exclusive interview with Rebekah about her experience of filming for Season Of The Witch and we are sure that you will enjoy the revelations she makes about her character ( and what it was like working alongside Nicolas Cage! ) as much as we did!
Rebekah Kennedy at the Season Of The Witch Premiere, New York 4 January 2011
Cagealot Castle: Can you tell us a little about your character in Season Of The Witch and how getting the role came about?
Rebekah: I play a young peasant girl who has a horrible encounter with Behman (Nicolas Cage's character) that does not end well for my character. As a result, the witch (Claire Foy) uses this to haunt Behman's dreams and even while he's awake throughout the movie. Originally I was asked to submit a tape for a different role. So I did, and then I found out from my agent I was being called to Louisiana for a callback for a different role instead, haha. So I went to the callback, where the director, casting director, and one of the producers were present. The next day I found out I got the part and was on my way to Louisiana. It all happened so quickly, but I was so thrilled to be cast.
Cagealot Castle: Being a period film it must have been a stunning set, what was it like portraying a character from a different era and was there anything that helped you get into the spirit of the age?
Rebekah: Putting on the costume really flings you back into the time period. When I put on the clothes, and my hair and make up were done, looking in the mirror it was truly like looking at a different person. Also stepping onto the set really rushed me back. Despite all the crew members running around and equipment when it was time to film, I couldn't help but feel right in her place.
Cagealot Castle: As a modern day woman, what was it like playing a medieval girl?
Rebekah: Well, everything is different. The way you walk and carry yourself. My mentality had to be totally different for the situation that was happening, as it would never happen that way now a days. We just don't have knights tearing into villages with swords, Haha. But, it was also so fun to put on that costume and step onto set to play someone who is nothing like me and doesn't even live in the same time period. It's really magical to be transported to perhaps feel a little bit like they might have.
Cagealot Castle: There are some pretty awesome actors in this movie...We would love to hear a bit about your experience of working alongside Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Claire Foy and the rest of the cast?
Rebekah: It was such an amazing opportunity to be involved in a movie with so much talent! Unfortunately, I only got to work with the three you mentioned. But, I know everyone was a delight. It was definitely an honor and a true treat to meet and work with Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman. Both were such down to earth and extremely nice. I was definitely a bit imitated when I first saw them, but they really put my nerves at ease. Nicolas Cage was also very caring in our scene together and wanted to make sure I was comfortable with everything. Sadly, I didn't have any scenes with Claire Foy, but I did get to talk to her and she's really quite lovely. So kind and easy to talk to. Nothing like her character in the movie haha. The experience was just very surreal and I kept wanting to pinch myself. To be in the same room with such respected actors and getting to watch them work was truly amazing.
Cagealot Castle: We've seen wolves, flying witches and vapour harpies in the trailers and clips for Season Of The Witch, and the film looks like it is going to be quite a spooky ride! can you say anything more about that and is the supernatural element something that attracted you to this film and is it a genre you can see yourself working in for the future?
Rebekah: I can't say too much because I don't want to give anything away. But it is definitely a spooky adventure. The supernatural element is very prominent, and what's really interesting is that the men taking the Witch on the journey really have no idea what they are in for. So, I think the audience will be hanging on to see what happens next. I really love watching these kind of movies, so it was definitely something that attracted me to the project. It's so exciting to enter a world that is not like your own where you feel like anything can happen. I can definitely see myself doing this genre again! The film I just wrapped, "The Book of Babylon", has a big supernatural element as well. It's just a fun world to fall into!
Cagealot Castle: And along the same spooky lines, Did anything supernaturally interesting happen while filming?! :)
Rebekah: Aw, sadly not for me! I did almost choke on some blood, but I don't think that had anything to do with supernatural stuff, just the blood sliding down my throat. Haha.
Cagealot Castle: If you were to have one 'supernatural' power, what would it be and why?
Rebekah: Wow, that's tough. I think flying would be really cool! Or being able to move things with my mind. It just seems like you could get things done so much faster. Wait that's two haha. Can I have both?
Cagealot Castle: What three words would you use to describe this film to encourage people to see it?
Rebekah: Mystery, Adventure, Thriller. If people are wanting a true thrill ride from beginning to end, they will love this film!
Cagealot Castle: Thanks so much for accepting the invite for an interview Rebekah, we can't wait to see the movie and will be looking out for you!
Wow, what a coup Lula, for Cagealot Castle! An exclusive interview with a cast member of Season Of The Witch! And in a very pivotal role, it sounds like. Congratulations! Sorry for my very late reply. I am finishing now the Chapter 3 of my fanfic. I have to finish this before the end of this month so I could pass the filmmaking audition. =)
I am following several artists on my Twitter accounts but I am no longer communicating with them since they don't reply to my tweets. So, I am happy enough now to know that Rebekah is a leading female cast in her own movie this year. I would like to list her movie as one of my favorites to watch this year of 2012. Wish to watch her soon on cinemas here. And if ever her movie is petitioned to have some reviews here in the Philippines, would you mind asking her if she likes to visit Philippines so I could see her in person? ^^ she's so pretty!! Wow! She really deserves now those leading roles so people around the world could see her abilities as an actress.
