Why, Sprocket, you just made my day!  I have loved this book for a long time, and read it every Christmas.

That was you, right? Charming.

That was very special, thank you.

Aw!! I was about to say I know the man for the job, but you were already on it young Sprocket! biggrin.gif wonderful, thank you!clap.gif
delicious spiced apple and magic cookies just for you!starry

( that's if it was you and not Werner Herzog doing an impression of you :wink )

How awesome you are such a delightfully open performing artist, every castle needs one! I think perhaps we must put our heads together and come up with a more accurate custom title for you (under your username)

can I interest anyone in a 'Damn-The-Weather' cocktail?!

What'll it be? How about a Corzo Ruby Red a or a Spiced candied Apple?chickendance

Aw you gals certainly know how to make a guy feel special! ^^

Seriously, cheers y'all! :D

It was indeed me... though whether that me in question is actually an eccentric German director who hauls ships and mountains and has a deep-seated mistrust of chickens, I'll leave elusive!

Wow, Werner Herzog is incognito here at the castle!  I'll go along with your ruse, Sprocket. wink

What kind of traditional things do you all have for Christmas / Winter Solstice?

Mine are pretty standard, listening to Christmas music; a drive to look at the Christmas lights; reading A Chrstmas Carol; watching Scrooge with Alistair Sims (a must for me). I have other favourite Christmas books that I get out to read, and some favourite foods to prepare. Mom always makes gumdrop cake and my daughter and I make a fruitcake full of dried fruits and nuts together every year. We have a family get together on Christmas Eve and of course the requisite turkey dinner on Christmas Day. Must be turkey here in Canada. My husband is French Canadian so he makes Buche de Noel and cretons and tourtiere.

How about you all?

I guess you could say I'm having a very untraditional Christmas Lady True!
It depends what you mean by tradition...for me it's not necessarily about spending it with family ( because I believe we are all family across the world ) I'm def not into the commercial aspect and I don't have any religious belief system, but I do have a spiritual inner life and see Christmas as a chance to stop and the come back into the soul of ourselves in connection with all others...in love and light... and to remember with gratitude who we truly are...not the madness we get caught up in...and remember those who are less fortunate than us. So while sitting here enjoying the castle fire, i will be spending much of the day in meditation and sending world healing! starry

two of my friends and i may also fast, definitely not partaking in the Christmas feasting... donating my meal and christmas money i'd usually spend on gifts to the RSPCA, NSPCC and Shelter (homeless charity)
Not a judgement on how anyone else spends Christmas by the way!

Oh and of course there will be many magical movie moments over the Christmas period!starry

Oh and I'm planning on hugging as many people as possible ... So watch out you lot!!!! hug

It is the rituals that I love, I suppose, probably the same for most people. I no longer have a religious belief system, but the traditions I grew up with stay with me and are important.

If I had me a big fireplace hearth I would like to have a yule log, I like the significance of that. Have to settle for the Buche de Noel, I guess!

I like your plans, Lula, and I think what you say about Christmas is very true.

As Dickens said:

I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach.

Such wisdom in those words Lady True.. Thank you! lotus

It is snowing again here, the scenery looks beautiful and sparkling starry i love it's timeless quality...just like Christmas!purplestar

Perhaps a yule candle instead? I agree with you about rituals...for me the best ones come from taking the essence and making it your own so it truly means something!.starry:

I will be celebrating the winter solstice...this year quite a powerful one with a lunar eclipse on the same day.

I do enjoy some of the traditions, those that have true meaning! And I love the kinds of games people play at Christmas, shame we cannot play cherades with the written word alone!!rolllaugh

It's snowing here too

. Yes, Tuesday a.m. at between 1 and  3 a.m. or so the eclipse will be happening here, I think. The last time they occurred at the same time was AD 1554 according to the site I was looking at. So that is very special!

I've never played charades! Not very good at games really, but it's fun anyway. I will be the score keeper of the castle.

'Tis the night before NICmas,

And all through the Castle

A magical light

From the candles doth sparkle!

And if you look closely

at bookends on shelves

You will see that in truth,

they are faeries and elves!

Time to wake up now

my yule loving sprites,

Come dance through the castle

Let us spread Love and Light!
