I bumped into someone on the net some weeks back who lives in Maramures in Romania. He told me about the amazing and sometimes enormous carved wooden gateways, traditional to the area, even at the front of houses, each with special symbols carved into the wood representing their belief in the continuity of life after death.
My curiosity peeked, upon researching this area a little more I came across what is known as the "Merry Cemetery".
This struck me as both an amazingly sacred and spiritual place in terms of the attitude towards death and dying, and what an awesome film location in would make for Ghost Rider, remembering the pivotal scenes that took place in a cemetery in the first movie!
It may well be that such sacred ground is understandably out of bounds, but wanted to share with you all any way.
The subject of death and cemeteries can be a little too uncomfortable for some and my apologies if this is the case. But if you do care to peruse the following links, you will see that this special place is more a celebration of life than fear of death.
Awesome, we must visit the Merry Cemetery when we go, what an experience that will be. I am sure that White Fay will want to come, with her interest in old graveyards. Also the Museum of Arrested Thought, and we can take the narrow-gauge steam train. I see also that there is a Elie Wiesel Memorial House. Lots to do there, even without the magnificent scenery. Nic will have lots to see if he likes to take in the sights, and if he has any time on his hands.
It will be interesting to see what shows up in the movie, the cemetery would be magnificent to see there.
Ooh I'm loving the sound of your itinerary for the Cagealot Castle adventure Lady True!
I am definitely one for the virtual travel experience too... so we can simply go there right now. . Through the photos!
Lol..of course by next year there would also be all the locations for Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance to add to our tour... Which for me has to include all of the castles!
Count me in! I love old cemeteries and this one looks fascinating! It reminds me of an Alaskan cemetery that I just learned about a couple of nights ago on a hour long television program on the history of some of the US's oldest and most well known cemeteries. Since I love cemeteries, t dawned on me that I should look for a book or two on the subject to read. I did some googling and immediately found this site:
which caught my eye cuz of a book called SEASON OF THE WITCH! That very same night.....a TV commercial came on with what song playing.....SEASON OF THE WITCH! LOL! It was a do do do do do moment....which then got me thinking about Nic's pyramid tomb. Which then led me to this site..... http://sz0017.ev.mail.comcast.net/zimbra/mail#9
These are some of the book links I'm still pouring over about old U.S. Cemeteries.....
Oh wow... That's all extraordinarily fascinating stuff White Fay! And do do do do indeed! I love it when the path just unfolds in a trail in front of you like that! The first two links are to email or something? They take me to a log in page?
To be honest I have never been that drawn to graveyards or cemeteries in my adult life, but I was very much as a child. I used to stop off at our local cemetery on the way home of school to 'speak to the gravestones', seemed the most natural thing to do as a child. And the energy always felt incredibly special and sacred, never the fearful energy that people like to ascribe to them.
The Merry Cemetery seems to have a very particular energy to it doesn't it? Stunning artworks as well.

How strange those links took ya there. I'll see if I can find the original links again! And how cool about visiting graveyards as a child just to hang out there. I know I've mentioned I've spent the night in one. Loved it......

Oh count me in too,I'm so fond of cemeteries!I've always been interested in different cultures' burial and grave rituals, and I have read a lot about nations considering death a joyful moment, it's kind of weird I've never heard of The Merry Cemetery...I so love those paintings adorning the graves, simply beautiful and creative.I wonder what kind of energy is there, must be different from that that usually is around graveyards. Anyway,it would be cool to see this place in the film
I agree Voodoo child, what a place to film a movie.... Lol, I think my eyes will pop out of my head if they do now though!
My interests, I must confess, are slightly more drawn to the castles element!
So let's see....Originally it was rumoured Ghost Rider would ride up to the gates of Dracula's Castle, then recently that it would be shot in Corvin castle. I'm speculating on the Merry Cemetery..... but all we actually have seen so far is the long winding road with the very long name I can never get right! Lol!
When I look out my window,Many sights to see.And when I look in my window,So many different people to beThat it's strange, so strange. You've got to pick up every stitch,You've got to pick up every stitch,You've got to pick up every stitch,Mm, must be the season of the witch,Must be the season of the witch, yeah,Must be the season of the witch. When I look over my shoulder,What do you think I see ?Some other cat looking overHis shoulder at meAnd he's strange, sure he's strange. You've got to pick up every stitch,You've got to pick up every stitch,Beatniks are out to make it rich,Oh no, must be the season of the witch,Must be the season of the witch, yeah,Must be the season of the witch. You've got to pick up every stitch,The rabbits running in the ditch,Beatniks are out to make it rich,Oh no, must be the season of the witch,Must be the season of the witch,Must be the season of the witch. When I look. When I look out my window,What do you think I see ?And when I look in my window,So many different people to beIt's strange, sure it's strange. You've got to pick up every stitch,You've got to pick up every stitch,The rabbits running in the ditch,Oh no, must be the season of the witch,Must be the season of the witch, yeah,Must be the season of the witch. When I look, when I look
