I agree, kelsey, the King's Speech was a wonderful movie.

We watched a fun movie the other night called Morning Glory, Rachel McAdams and Harrison Ford, it was amusing.

Hi Kelsey and Lady True, I agree, The King's Speech was an amazing film. starry

I saw Joel Schumacher's 'The Number 23' for the first time last night...anyone else seen it? another great straight (non-comedic) performance from Jim Carrey, a gripping psychological thriller, it made me more excited than i am already for Trespass! action

'Harvey' - which is the kind of film which will probably get remade with a wacky man in the lead, whose performance will lack the grace and tenderness of James Stewart's in the original.

I just watched this lately, it is one of my favourite movies.  I have said I would like to see Nic in that role, but really, the movie is a perfect little gem. There was talk of Spielburg remaking it with Tom Hanks :(

I think maybe it has come to nothing though, hope so.

I was in a Jimmy Stewart mood then and followed Harvey by The Shop Around The Corner, another perfect little movie.

Kingdom of Heaven,it's one of Ridley Scott's masterpieces,i guess...Edward Norton's excellent performance as King Baldwin IV is the most eye-catching one..

Pina... a Wim Wenders documentary on Pina Bausch! "Dance, dance... otherwise, we are lost!"

Absolutely mesmerising and I didn't even see it in 3D! She turns the body into a rock, a beast, a fragile thing of glass! Her sensitivity to form and the elements is also alchemical and I feel like I finally have found dance that rivets me.

Guys, you will love this!

I saw two genius movies this week I've wanted to watch for a long time

starsThe Boy in Blue and The Wizard of Ozstars

Enjoyed both of them a lot.The Boy in Blue is a higly underrated movie in my opinion.Nic's portrayal of Ned Hanlan is so kaledoscopic,I was deeply enchanted by Nic's performance,as I always am.

And the The Wizard of Oz...I can hardly name a lot of movies that are so exceptionally gorgeous and unique.I fell in love with it right away!Judy Garland is awesome there. It was SO great it's 'mind-blowingly beautiful' as Nic described it.witchmagicwand

Oh my.................. it was your first time for Wizard Of Oz Voodoo child? So happy you have seen this magical film at last! fairy it is my fave film ever, and that includes Nic movies I am afraid. i don't think there has ever been a film made since that has the same qualities, it is pure unrivalled sublimeness! stars

I agree with you about Nic in Boy In blue....it is not a one dimensional performance by any means.....not to forget how HOT he is in it too! (someone had to mention it! )

I've seen some of Talk to Her, Lula! It was captivating and I think I just came across it on television once. I remember being bewildered but touched! I hadn't heard of The Ship Sails On before so I'll make sure to look out for it! Thanks a deal! :D

I recently rewatched Fata Morgana, which is a strange early Herzog sci-fi documentary set in the African desert. My friend Kate said it as if you are seeing through the eyes of the landscape. The people are so small and transitory in these large, slowly changing yet ever-permanent plains!

Wow, what a treat Lady T! starry I am glad it was a amazing as you had hoped hug

I have not seen this 'Fata morgana' Sprocket but you had me already with "strange early Herzog sci-fi documentary set in the Sahara desert"! I have feeling it may not be easy to locate, but i will try!

I have watched a lot of movies since last posting in this thread...some mind blowing some less so. Finally saw Winter's Bone Lady T, and agree with your assessment of it, what a powerful film. and I think it was kelsey who recommended The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo..so glad you did Kels, the swedish films deserve the acclaim they receive. apparently based on crime novels written by Stieg Larsson, (original title 'Men Who Hate Women' that gives you an indication of the nature of the film)  have seen the trilogy now and felt all carried through the same level of quality. Not films for the feint hearted though. Apparently there will be an english language version of the first film starring Daniel Craig?

The first Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law was a bit of a shock to my system in that I had an expectation of Holmes, the action element was quite a surprise! but in the end I loved RDJ's interpretation of it and by god you have to admire that man's impeccable english accent, it is way better than mine! and am really looking forward to the second film 'Book Of Shadows'.

On Sunday I saw the Woody Allen film 'Midnight In Paris' which is like a Love letter to modern day and nostalgic Paris 1920's, both romantic and fantastical, the main character ( a screenwriter trying to write a novel ) time travelling to the 1920's and at one point the 1890's, an inspiring way to work on his present day issues with his partner and in his writing.  it has a beautiful magical transcendent quality, something reminiscent of his earlier film Purple Rose of Cairo where the characters literally stepped out of and into the silver screen.  in the film we meet a variety of artists and writers including Hemingway, F.Scott fitzgerald, Josephine Baker, picasso matisse ,  gertrude stein (played by the ever delightful Kathy Bates) Alice B.Toklas,  T.S. Eliot, Dali, then back to 1890's  Toulouse Lautrec, Gaugin, Degas. .. and have a Woody Allen style peek at thair foibles and relationships which I loed,  perhaps they are portrayed in a little bit of an unnaturally caricature ish way but it is an evocative mesmerizing take on fantasy and one unlike I've ever seen before.

Anyhow. i could go on but will stop there!!
