Oh my, you are hitting all my right buttons tonight, Lula, I so love this movie. Roger Ebert is spot on, what great reviews they are. He knows Nicolas Cage the actor, and writes about him with discernment.
You know I was just thinking the other day about what a wonderful actor Cher is, and wondering why she didn't make more movies.

Ebert has always championed Nic's work, and he is, as you say Lady Trueheart, a great critic with discernment. I have always liked the way he writes and how he has connected with the emotional and creative elements of a performance. He has not always liked Nics' movies though, Kick Ass for example!jawdrop.gif

My friend & I are going to see MOONSTRUCK tonight! On the big screen!bouncyfrog A local playhouse is showing classic movies & since it is nearly Valentine's day, this was their pick. What are the odds? I can't believe how lucky I am!
And you're right, Lady Trueheart, Cher is a pretty decent actress, but I can't think of many movies she's been in. Maybe she just likes singing more?

Wow! that is so cool.... have a great time GreenRiverMay, enjoy the tormented passionate romantic Ronnie on the big screen! reel Lol, I am biased obviously, Moonstruck definitely has to be Cher's best movie..and her luckiest....she has some wonderful moments with young Nic! lips

Silkwood, Mermaids, she was great in those and I recall a few others, but I do wonder why she never continued in movies. She always got praised by the critics, hey she won an Oscar, for crying out loud! Oh, yes, my favourite of hers, Mask, that was a particularly affecting move.
Hope you enjoyed the movie, GRMay, well, I am sure you did! It is one of my besties, a perfect Valentines movie! Alhough I have never seen it on the big screen, so I am jealous of you. aww

Sorry I forgot to tell you how it went. A friend of mine passed away recently & I've been preoccupied with anything but fun.
The month started out on the right foot, though. It was so much fun! The audience really got into it & said some interesting things while watching. It is one of the most unique love stories I've seen on film & I love how it explores many different aspects of women & men's relationships. My friend was very impressed with Cher's mother in the movie, how she handled her cheating husband without giving in herself. It wasn't the usual movie-going crowd, so people were thrilled & amazed at the outbursts Nic did. At the point when he & Cher are talking in the kitchen & he suddenly tosses over a table, my friend was pleasantly surprised that the next move was a kiss (and sort of confused, too - "okay..." ). But when you think about it, if there is a tiny little table between you & Nicolas Cage, it is not doing much good/just being in the way; therefore, he was just doing the sensible thing!

Heck, if I had been Cher I would have knocked it over myself! Glad you enjoyed the movie night GRMay, it sounds like just what you needed. Sorry to hear about your friend.
