According to this article from the Hindustan Times, Nic has been confirmed for a leading role in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's upcoming film, *Broken Horses*.
So weird.. does anyone remember the rumoured film *The Saddhu* adapted from the comic by Gotham Chopra, with Nic rumoured to star? Only the other day Gotham on his twitter said that the writing adaptation was going well, but nothing about Nic starring. The 'Chopra' synchronicity struck me with today's news!
It’s learnt that Vidhu Vinod Chopra has finalised Nicolas Cage for his film Broken Horses. The movie will go on the floors early next year.
“Vidhu is currently in Los Angeles, working on for Broken Horses . Even in Mumbai, he was in touch with his Hollywood contacts for the cast and crew. Cage has been confirmed for one of the leading roles just a few days ago,” says our source.
Reportedly, Mickey Rourke has also been approached for an important role in the gangster film that Chopra is producing in association with Reliance Big Pictures. Apparently, Broken Horses is inspired by the filmmaker’s Parinda, starring Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit.
“ Broken Horses keeps the soul of Parinda intact. But it explores the same genre in a diverse setup,” says our source. While Chopra couldn’t be contacted, Nitin Desai, who’s the production designer of the movie, says, “All I can say is that I’m working on Broken Horses . Vinod is the best person to talk about anything related to the film.”
The Saddhu looked like a very cool possibility. I haven't heard anything about this Broken Horses project but hey......anything with Nic in it sounds good to me. :)

I was really excited for Nic in The Sadhu when that news was circulating, I could so see him in the role of a soldier who is transformed into a spiritual warrior!
If memory serves me, I think it was originally Deepak Chopra (whose work is a huge inspiration to me) to pen the screenplay with his son Gotham, with The Chopras and Saturn Films producing?
I'm loving the sound of this one too.. Bollywood gangster... Yes please! But then I'm like you Bon, excited for any film Nic is in!
isn't it interesting that this is the second rumoured film in recent months, alongside 'Office Paranormal', that Nic would be starring alongside Mickey Rourke?! that is a film combo I'd like to see again!

It has been a while since I read anything about the Bollywood Gangster movie 'Broken Horses', but I just came across this mention of Nic in relation to the movie again, in an article about Hayden Christensen. No idea aboutt eh credibiltiy of the source, but it states Nic is to play "a murderous ganglord, Julius Hench." I am seeing echoes of Nic's character Joe in 'Bangkok Dangerous' with this synopsis!
"Hayden may be attached to a new movie project called Broken Horses with a possible cast that includes Nicolas Cage, Joel Edgerton (Owen Lars - Star Wars: Attack of the Clones) and Val Kilmer (thanks to JforJ for the news.).
Based on the 1989 Bollywood hit movie Parinda, the film's story will be adapted for the US and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra who directed the original movie. Sources about the production say filming is projected for September 2011 in New York and New Mexico.
Synopsis:
When concert-level violinist Jake Heckum (Christensen) returns to his rural Western town to visit his simple-minded brother William "Buddy" Heckum (Edgerton), he learns that Buddy has fallen under the influence of murderous ganglord, Julius Hench (Cage), who has turned the gullible Buddy into a killing machine. Now, Buddy wants to quit the gang and join Jake in New York , but Hench has no intention of letting his prize hit-man go so easily."
I hope Nicolas gets attatched to this movie officially because it sounds like something new for him. A chance for him to play a hardcore cold blooded killer is something he has not done since the first 5 minutes of Face Off. Nic wasn't really a bad guy in Bangkok Dangerous because he ended up having a heart of gold and murdered the real baddies. I would like to see Nic play this character like a hybrid of Terance MCdounagh and Vincent (tom Cruise) from Collateral.
